The Hague with teenagers

What to do in The Hague with teenagers? The Hague is a great city for families with teenagers. There is enough to do for this target group to spend an entire weekend having a great time in The Hague. We wrote a great blog earlier about what to do in The Hague with kids, but we’ve chosen a few activities from all those dozens of activities that are especially suitable for families with teenagers! Below is our list of top activities for a weekend to The Hague with teenagers.

The Hague with teenagers

#1 Amaze VR

A fun activity to do in The Hague with teenagers is a VR experience. We did this in The Hague with our daughter at 2 places and the experience is about the same at both. For example, in the middle of the city center you can do this at Amaze VR. This activity is suitable for kids as young as 10 years old, so in that respect teenagers are the ideal target group.

After explaining how the VR glasses plus accessories work, we play different games with each other. It is very crazy when you suddenly see the rest of the family in a different guise and you have to work together to complete the tasks. At Amaze VR we play a number of short games and in total we spend about 2 hours doing this activity! The games are great fun and definitely suitable for adolescents!

The second place we did a VR experience in The Hague with our daughter was at The Park. This is slightly outside the center, but what we found to be a big advantage is that you can park your car for free nearby (at VR Amaze we had to pay to park). Here we also get some explanation first and then can practice for a while.

After we practice, here we play a somewhat bigger game. You really choose a game, which you play all the time. As a family, we end up in ancient Egypt and have to do all kinds of tasks there. We also found this a really cool activity to play together as a family. By the way, you also move around quite a lot during this activity.

#2 Duinrell

Most teenagers enjoy going to an amusement park and in the Hague area you can visit Duinrell. Duinrell is located in Wassenaar just over a 20-minute drive from The Hague. We have visited Duinrell a couple of times now with our daughter and we enjoy ourselves a whole day here every time.

Duinrell has enough cool attractions that the park is also suitable for teenagers! For some attractions in the park you have to be at least 1.40 meters tall. Duinrell also has a very cool water park with several cool slides near the amusement park. For a few extra euros you also have access to this water park for a few hours. You can choose 2, 3 or 4 hours in the water park.

If you are with older teenagers, we would definitely recommend adding the water park. Then you might not have too many attractions in the park that are attractive to this target group and you can make a nice combination of a piece of amusement park and water park. Check out the Duinrell website for more information about the amusement park and water park.

#3 The Uithof

At the Uithof in The Hague you can do various activities with teenagers. This is also a good place if the weather is not so good in The Hague and you still want to do something with your teenagers. For example, at the Uithof you can go skating almost every afternoon.

Even if you do not have skates with you during your city trip to The Hague with teenagers, you can easily rent these skates at the Uithof. We ourselves regularly go ice skating with our daughter in Tilburg and it is always very enjoyable! Besides free skating, it is also possible to go figure skating here at certain hours of the week.

There is also an artificial ski slope at the Uithof and therefore you can also go skiing and snowboarding with teenagers here. As with skating, it is possible to bring your own equipment or rent it on site. There are also special family tickets here that you can book, allowing the whole family to be active here.

There are also several other activities you can do with teens here in The Hague such as laser tag, sumo wrestling, bungee soccer, climbing, bouldering, archery and expedition games.

#4 Day at Scheveningen

From The Hague you can also very easily spend a day at the beach in Scheveningen. From the center of The Hague you can get to Scheveningen beach in no time by metro. This can be a nice option during the hot summer months when taking a city trip to The Hague with the family.

Scheveningen has a number of nice beach clubs where you can go for a bite to eat and a drink. There is also a large Ferris wheel, where you have a great view of the area. If you want to do something spectacular with teenagers here, you have several options in Scheveningen.

For example, here you can go bungy jumping with the kids at a height of 60 meters. Kids under 18 do need written parental permission for this. You can even do a duo jump here as parent and kid! This is the only place in the Netherlands where this is possible!

It is also possible to zipline from the pier and we did that ourselves with our daughter. We thought it was super cool to slide down the beach of Scheveningen from a great height.

Finally, you can take surfing lessons with teenagers in Scheveningen. There is a surf school near the Pier where you can go for these activities. This school is open all year round.

#5 Museum The Hague with teenagers

You can go to various museums in The Hague with teenagers. Of course, this is an activity your adolescents must love, otherwise you can of course skip this activity. Below we list some of the museums.

Museon: this is the science museum of The Hague. Here you can do all kinds of experiments with kids. This is especially suitable for teenagers up to about 12 years old, as the museum does focus mainly on young kids.

Escher in the Palace: we always find Escher’s artworks very interesting. If you kids love art, then this museum is definitely an option. There are often all kinds of workshops offered at the museum as well. Our daughter did a workshop on gouging here.

Art Museum: if your teens love art, this can definitely be a fun option to go to in The Hague with adolescents.

Rijksmuseum The Prison Gate: here the focus is on the prison in the Middle Ages. The museum is right in the center and we found the audio tour very interesting. It still remains special how things used to be regarding prisoners.

Mauritshuis: this is the most famous museum in The Hague and of course the museum is known for the painting the Girl with the Pearl Earring. You can also take all kinds of workshops here at this museum. For example, our daughter took a painting workshop here.

#6 Escaperoom

It is also definitely fun to play an escaperoom in The Hague with teenagers. You do not have many different parties in The Hague that offer an escaperoom, but in Scheveningen there is a party that has several escaperooms. Most escaperooms are suitable for kids 10 years and older, so these escaperooms are also ideal to play with teenagers.

We ourselves played the Escaperoom Mission Impossible here with our 10-year-old daughter and it was a very cool experience. At 10 years old, our daughter was still a bit on the young side, but with our help she was still able to make a good contribution to the game. The idea is to break out through all kinds of games eventually within an hour.

This is another activity that is great to play together with the whole family. From the beach of Scheveningen you can walk to this escaperoom, making it great to combine a day at the beach with playing an escaperoom.

Other activities The Hague with adolescents

Besides the activities mentioned above, there are quite a few more activities you can do in The Hague with teenagers. For example, the Hague is of course home to the Lower House and you can book a tour to the Upper and Lower Houses if you wish. We did this tour without our daughter and we can imagine that this can be interesting for slightly older kids. Especially if they have been taught about this at school as well.

In addition, it can be fun to go to Madurodam with teenagers, although we do think Madurodam is more suitable for families with young kids. If your teenagers love animals, it might be fun to visit Avonturia de Vogelkelder which is a mix of a pet store and indoor zoo.

In short, there are plenty of activities you can do in The Hague with teenagers. Therefore, you can also have a great weekend away with the family to The Hague.
