Savoy Hotel Rotterdam with kids: a review!

During the summer vacations, we took another fine city trip to one of our favorite cities in the Netherlands: Rotterdam. We have visited the city numerous times now and the blog we wrote about the city, Rotterdam with kids, keeps expanding with fun activities you can do in this port city with kids. During this city trip to Rotterdam with our daughter, we slept at the Savoy hotel Rotterdam and based on our overnight stay at the hotel, we are writing this comprehensive review about the hotel.

The hotel

After spending a day in Rotterdam and its surroundings, we drove the car to the hotel towards the end of the afternoon. We park the car in the paid parking garage the Kiphof, where we can park the car for 24 hours at a reduced rate. This parking garage is really practically opposite the hotel, and so from the car we got to the hotel reception within two minutes.

A very big plus of the hotel is its location. In fact, it is right in the center of the city a few minutes’ walk from the market hall in the hip Hoogkwartier district. We are total fans of the market hall and when we are in the area we actually always go there to eat something at one of the Indian stalls in the hall.

From the hotel, therefore, many of the city’s attractions are easily accessible on foot or by public transportation. In addition, it is possible to rent bicycles at the hotel. The hotel was recently completely renovated and it shows! The hotel gives a fresh and modern impression and, through pictures, makes a nice link to the Rotterdam of earlier times.

The room

We had booked with the hotel the Family Room with balcony. This is a room suitable for families of four and is 30m2 in size. By the way, they also have a room for families of six and that is the Piet Le Blanc Suite, which also looks very cool. Our room actually has two sections. A sort of bedroom for our daughter and a bedroom for us.

The room looks sleek in retro style and on the wall are photos of Rotterdam from earlier times. In addition, the room has a private bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. Furthermore, the room also had a desk, where our daughter spent quite some time reading and coloring. Always nice when the kids can also have somewhere to sit with their own stuff.

And then the room also has a sizable balcony, where you can sit comfortably. We were lucky to have beautiful weather, which made it totally nice to sit on the balcony. Our room was in a corner, so we had quite a large balcony with a nice view of the city’s surroundings.

In addition, the room has a well-functioning WIFI connection, coffee and tea facilities, a large flat-screen TV in both rooms and a safe. In addition, you could choose what kind of pillow you wanted. This is the first hotel we stayed at where you can choose what kind of pillow you want to sleep with. Do you want a firm pillow or just a very soft pillow. Nice that you can choose this yourself, since in our family we all sleep on a different type of pillow and that is definitely part of a good night’s sleep!

Food and drink in hotel

When we arrived at the hotel, the terrace of Savoy Local (which is housed in the hotel) was already nicely packed with people and you can have a great lunch or a nice drink here. You can choose a sandwich, a soup or an entire drink board here. Of course, this is also where you can order a delicious cocktail at the end of the day.

Of course, due to the central location of the hotel, it is also possible to get something to eat in the center. For example, as we mentioned earlier, we ate at the city’s Market Hall. We did take advantage of the hotel’s breakfast in the morning and it was very extensive and very tasty.

Thus, there were many different breads, spreads, sweets and juices available at breakfast. They also had hot egg dishes, yogurt with cereal, coffee and tea, and we are probably forgetting a lot of other things. Both we and our daughter had a delicious meal here and we left the hotel with a well-filled belly. On that note, we really liked the breakfast!
