Art Hotel Amsterdam with kids: a comprehensive review!

We continue to be amazed at how much there is to do in Amsterdam with the family. We already wrote the blog Amsterdam with kids, in which we listed all the activities in the city, and last weekend we were again in this beautiful capital of the Netherlands with our daughter. This time we spent the night at the WestCord Art Hotel in Amsterdam and based on this overnight stay we are writing this comprehensive review of the hotel.

The hotel

You can park your car in the hotel’s own parking garage based on availability. We arrive at the hotel towards the end of the afternoon and unfortunately cannot park in the hotel’s own parking garage. We park the car at the Gamma parking lot across from the hotel. This is a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.

Make sure that if you are staying for a weekend that you take a weekend card at the vending machine. We thought we had bought a card for 24 hours, but it turned out to be only a card until 12 a.m. for that Saturday. The parking lot is free from noon to six, so we had to set the alarm at five to six to buy a new parking pass for Sunday morning.

What we think is so cool about the hotel is the Herman Brood art that hangs throughout the hotel. We are fans of Herman Brood’s paintings and you will find plenty of copies of the painter hanging in the hotel. The same theme has been carried through to the rooms. Also nice is that downstairs at the reception there is a whole room with a puppet show, doll house and a closet full of games.

The hotel is located in the north of the city in the Spaarndammer neighborhood and by bus (bus stop is around the corner) you can get to Amsterdam’s central station in less than 15 minutes.

The room

WestCord Art hotel Amsterdam has a total of 195 rooms. The hotel is divided into 3* rooms and 4* rooms. In addition, the hotel also has an apartment with its own kitchen/living room, private bedroom and bathroom. We had booked the Family room, where you had a separate room for Sophie. Ideal for families with kids! Around the clock of 7:30, we were able to put Sophie to bed in her own room, which allowed us to move freely through our “own” room ourselves. Both rooms also have their own flat-screen TVs.

The atmosphere of the room was very colorful because of the paintings (by artist Chiel van Zelst) on the wall. As a result, we totally felt like it was a cozy family room. There was also a little desk in the room where Sophie could color. Furthermore, the room was fully equipped. Thus, the room had a refrigerator, a safe, an espresso machine and a well-functioning WIFI connection. The bathroom was also modern with a shower with rain shower head. In that respect, it really is a wonderful room for families with kids.

Surroundings of the hotel

Around the hotel there is also plenty to do with kids. For example, the public outdoor pool Brediusbad is located next to the hotel. From the hotel’s garden you can see right onto this. Especially in the summer, it’s a great activity to cool off with your kids for a few hours. Just over a ten-minute walk from the hotel, you can also visit nature playground the Woeste Westen. Here kids can play with playground equipment that is on and around the water. We found this to be a fun activity to go to for an hour (or two).

From nature playground het Woeste Westen, it is a few minutes’ walk to Westerpark. Here you have two different playgrounds located in the park and it is also possible to have a snack and a drink in the park. It is also possible to rent bicycles at the hotel and explore Amsterdam this way.

Food and drink in hotel

You basically don’t have to leave the hotel door to eat and drink. In fact, inside the hotel is The Art Brasserie, where you can go all day for snacks and drinks. In the evening, you can also come here for a cocktail, as the brasserie has an extensive cocktail menu.

We took advantage of the hotel’s breakfast in the morning. This was included with the overnight stay booked. Breakfast was delicious with everything you need at breakfast. Luxury sandwiches, delicious egg, freshly baked pancakes, yogurt with all kinds of cereals and fruits, various juices and much more. On that note, we left the hotel with a well-filled stomach.

Conclusion

We enjoyed our overnight stay at the Art Hotel in Amsterdam. This hotel is very colorful because of all the paintings and artwork, but above all, it has a fresh and modern look. The room we had was perfect with a separate room for our daughter. You can park your car (based on availability) in the hotel’s own parking garage, and you can get to the city center in no time by bus. In addition, it has a delicious breakfast, so we really had nothing at all to complain about our stay. For more information on the hotel, rooms and room rates, take a look here.
