Haarlem is a beautiful city and during the Christmas period we even went there twice for a weekend. On the second weekend of this Christmas vacation, we slept at Hotel Lion D’Or with our daughter. As a result of this overnight stay, we are writing a comprehensive review of the hotel here.
Table of contents
One of the main reasons we chose this hotel is its central location. In fact, Haarlem’s oldest city hotel is located opposite the central train station and you can actually walk straight into the center from the hotel’s entrance.
We had made a reservation in advance in the central station parking garage (Interparking Station), so we were at the hotel in a few minutes’ walk from the parking garage. Of course, the hotel’s location is also ideal for people coming by train.
We were there for Christmas and the entire lobby was extremely attractively decorated with various Christmas decorations. This lobby has plenty of space to play games or have a drink with your kids. In addition, a computer and printer are available at the hotel for guests to print out tickets if needed. We did not need to use this, but for foreign guests this is ideal!
In the hotel they have four different rooms and we had booked the family room. This family room is suitable for families of four. There are, as you can see in the pictures below, four single beds in the room. The room was about 30m2 in size.
Further pluses of the room are the refrigerator to put drinks in, the Nespresso Machine for coffee and tea, the comfortable beds and a safe for your valuables. In addition, it is always nice if the WIFI works well and you can watch TV with the family at the end of the day.
Food and drink in hotel
Next to the lobby is a Café lounge on the first floor where you can have drinks and dinner with the family. Breakfast is also served here. It is available for consumption in the café starting at 7 a.m. Sandwiches, Crossaints, various toppings, doughnuts, fruit, yogurt and an egg are all provided, so in that respect we left the door with a well-filled belly.
Also, you basically don’t have to leave the house at noon and in the evening to eat, since you can also order appetizers, a sandwich, a pizza or a plate of Spaghetti here. Because of the hotel’s location, there are, of course, plenty of options for dining outside the hotel.
Another wonderful overnight stay at a nice hotel in Haarlem. Right in the center, nice room with everything and also a fine breakfast, which made us start the day well. In that regard, a very good option if you are going to Haarlem for a weekend with your family!
