Stayokay hostel Dordrecht with kids: a review!
A night at the Stayokay Hostel Dordrecht with kids is top notch! The hostel is located in the Biesbosch nature reserve and within a few minutes’ drive you are in the center of the city of Dordrecht. We already wrote the blog Dordrecht with kids about this fun city, in which we listed all the fun activities of the city. Following our overnight stay at the Stayokay Hostel in Dordrecht, we write this comprehensive review of our findings.

When we visited nature reserve the Biesbosch a few weeks ago and had gone climbing in the Dordrecht climbing forest here, our hostel Stayokay in Dordrecht had already caught our eye. What a nice family-friendly location this hotel has! So when we started planning a city trip to Dordrecht, we knew right away where we wanted to stay!
And so last Saturday afternoon, after spending a day in the city of Dordrecht, we drove toward the hostel. What is very nice about the hostel is that you can park your car in front of the door for free. So we were at the reception desk within seconds. What immediately stands out about the hostel is that it has a very relaxed atmosphere and is not a typical hostel like most hostels where backpackers are the main target group.
In the hostel it is a nice mix of families with kids, couples and groups of older people and I think that is mainly because of the environment. In fact, the hostel is located in the beautiful area of the Biesbosch. What Sophie immediately notices when we arrive at the hostel is that you can go out on the water with canoes and SUP boards at the hostel and after we check in, we go right out on the water with a canoe.
In fact, next to the hostel you can rent canoes and SUP boards from the small company DRIJF for a few hours and explore the beautiful surroundings this way!
We book a triple room with breakfast at the hotel and have a nice modern room with a large double bed for the parents and a bunk bed in which Sophie can sleep. So it is also possible to sleep four people in this room. In addition, we have a private bathroom with toilet and shower. The room is not super big, but is big enough for our family.
By the way, it is also possible to book a cottage here for families with kids. These Wrap Houses can accommodate four people and here you have your own cottage including a sitting area in front. Of course, this is also very cool if you are with kids. Here you also have a kitchenette at your disposal and a refrigerator. For more information on these cottages, take a look here.
What is a very big plus of the hostel is its huge family-friendly environment. You’re in the middle of the Biesbosch nature reserve, and as we mentioned earlier, you can hop in a canoe from the hostel and explore the beautiful surroundings. There is also a small playground for kids at the hostel. In that respect, you really have the space here with kids.
In addition, there are quite a few fun things for kids within walking distance of the hostel. For example, on Sunday mornings we walk in 15 minutes to Biesboschcentrum Dordrecht, where the Dordrecht climbing forest is also located. A super fun climbing forest for kids and our daughter had fun climbing here with us for a few hours.
In addition, near this climbing forest there is also a beach including several playgrounds. Here our daughter also enjoyed herself for a whole afternoon and we also had a bite to eat and a drink at the restaurant located at this beach while our daughter was playing.
Our evening entertainment was also very close to the hostel. For example, on the same road two minutes away by car is Bowling Center Dordrecht, where in addition to bowling you can do several other activities with kids. In short, the hostel is in a super family-friendly area and you don’t have to go far from the hostel to have a whole weekend of fun!
Food and drink in hotel
At the hostel you have a trendy bar, where you can have a drink. This can be done indoors or outdoors by the water. Of course, that is wonderful that you can enjoy a nice cold drink outside in the middle of nature. Of course, we had a drink on the terrace here after our canoe trip.
In the morning we also took advantage of the breakfast served by the hostel. This breakfast had quite a few choices in terms of toppings, breads and juices. There was also yogurt with cereal and nuts and it was possible to put a warm egg on your bread. There were also croissant, gingerbread and then we are probably forgetting several things. On that note, we headed out again that Sunday with a well-filled stomach.
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at Stayokay Hostel Dordrecht. The area in which the hostel is located is really beautiful and you actually have to go on the water if you sleep in the hostel. If only for an hour that is well worth it. In addition, it is very nice that you can park your car in front of the door for free.
The rooms are fresh and modern and the breakfast in the morning is very extensive and delicious. In that respect, we really recommend the hostel for families with kids who are taking a city trip to Dordrecht or want to explore the Biesbosch National Park.
