Olympic hotel Amsterdam with kids: enjoy a hot tub with a view!
We are fans of the city of Amsterdam and have already made several visits of a few days to our beautiful capital city. We also wrote an extensive blog about it(Amsterdam with kids). In the May vacation we visited Amsterdam again, since we still haven’t done and seen everything, and this time our eye fell on staying overnight at the Olympic Hotel in Amsterdam. We saw the pictures of the hot tubs on the roof of the hotel and the beautiful views from the hotel and then we knew where we wanted to book in Amsterdam with our family!

The hotel is located in the south of Amsterdam and from the highway you can reach the hotel in no time by car. The hotel is practically right up against Amsterdam’s Olympic stadium, and from most rooms you also have a view of this beautiful stadium. The hotel is close to the Amsterdam forest (a twenty-minute walk from the hotel) and by bike you can be in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark within five minutes. You can also rent these bikes from the hotel.
We parked the car near the hotel in the hotel parking garage. Keep in mind, however, that this does come at a cost. When you enter the hotel you enter a large lobby, where you can also sit with kids and play games and have a drink, for example. Here is also the hotel’s restaurant and café.
Throughout the hotel you will find references to various Olympic sports. For example, the corridors of the rooms have rugs in the shape of a running track.
We had booked a Podium Room for three people. It is also possible for larger families to book a room, as they also have rooms with multiple bunk beds for the kids. We were on the top floor and therefore had a great view of the Olympic stadium and the city of Amsterdam. We looked right into the stadium from our room. Anyway, the view was fantastic from our room, as you could see quite far away over the city of Amsterdam.
The room, as you can see from the pictures below, had good (box spring) beds that were side by side. We found the room very nice (we love this kind of fishbone flooring) and was sleekly decorated. In that regard, it gave us a huge sense of luxury the room with the beautiful view we had.
Furthermore, all facilities were available in the room such as a small fridge, a flat-screen TV, good WIFI connection, a coffee maker and a safe for your belongings.
The hot tub
One of the main reasons we booked the hotel was because of the hot tub. In previous hotels, we think this is really a big plus of a hotel. How nice it is to be able to take a seat in a hot tub with your family after spending a day exploring the city. What was extra cool about these two hot tubs was that you also got a great view of the surrounding area.
Unfortunately, when we were there, it was not so warm that we could also lie in the hammock or on one of the beds, but we can imagine that it is good to be here in the summer.
On the same floor, the space inside contains a gym and a sauna. We loved diving into the sauna after sitting in the hot tub. There are also hotel towels here that you can use.
Food and drink in hotel
You don’t have to leave the hotel to get something to eat or drink. On the first floor of the hotel is the restaurant Cinq Oriental Bistro and Cafe Olympic. Both the Bistro and the Cafe offer dining options. The Bistro offers dishes such as sushi and a curry, and in the Bistro you can order sandwiches, salads, pastas, burgers and spare ribs, as well as some more upscale dishes such as a steak or a lobster.
So as you can see, there are plenty of choices in the hotel for kids to have some tasty food as well. We ourselves had already had lunch and dinner in town, so we did not take advantage of dinner at the hotel. However, we did take advantage of the hotel’s breakfast the next day. This one was very elaborate as you can see in the pictures below. Everything you can expect from a breakfast buffet was there and in addition there was a cook who can make an omelette fresh for you.
The only downside is that there are so many yummy things at breakfast that you eat so much that you’re almost not hungry for the rest of the day, so it’s a waste to eat lunch at noon ;).
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the Olympic hotel Amsterdam with our family! The location is prime, the room is luxurious, the staff is welcoming, the food is delicious and the hot tub and view are a huge plus over other hotels in town. So we can definitely recommend this hotel if you are going to Amsterdam with your kids. For more information on the hotel, room and room rates, take a look here.
