Ibis Styles Haarlem City with kids: a review!
Last weekend we stayed in the lovely city of Haarlem for another weekend. We already wrote the blog Haarlem with kids about it. During this city trip, we stayed at hotel Ibis Styles Haarlem City which is close to a number of sights we wanted to revisit with our daughter. Based on this overnight stay, we write this review about the hotel in Haarlem.

The Hotel
This hotel located in the north of the city is a sports-themed hotel set in green surroundings. You walk eight minutes to the Haarlem ice rink and nine minutes to the Bloemendaal train station. The hotel has a fresh look and everything still looks very new. We found that to be a big plus of the hotel.
There are several options for parking your car at the hotel. You can park your car for free in the Squash Club parking lot across from the hotel, but the hotel itself has parking spaces in front of the hotel for a small fee per 24 hours. With either option, it is not a far walk to the hotel reception.

The room
The hotel has a total of 109 rooms and the sports theme is subtly implemented in the rooms as well. For example, in our room we had a sketch on the wall of a hockey player, and on the hallways of the room you can see different pictures of athletes and also different bucks as seats. We had booked a family room for three people. We had a double bed and next to it a sofa bed that folded out and where Sophie slept.
There was also another desk in the room with a chair, where Sophie spent some time coloring. The room also has air conditioning, a safe, a flat-screen TV and a good free WIFI connection. The room is 23 m2 in size. As you can see from the photos of the room, the room has a very fresh look.

In addition, of course, the room has a bathroom with a shower. Our room overlooked Haarlem’s ice rink. We must say that it was very quiet in the room and (as you sometimes see at other hotels) we heard very little noise from other rooms or the hallway. All three of us slept wonderfully!
The hotel also has another apartment available which can be very suitable for families with kids. This room is also quite a bit larger and also consists of two rooms. Check the hotel website for photos of this apartment and what the prices are.

Playgrounds surrounding
The hotel is within walking distance of two fun playgrounds. We wanted to visit these playgrounds beforehand, so the hotel’s location was ideal. We no longer had to get in the car with our daughter and could walk there in the afternoon. These playgrounds are not quite in the center, so from a downtown hotel it is too far to walk, but not from this hotel.
Playground Burcht ter Cleeff is a playground in the middle of a residential area and from the hotel you can walk to this playground in less than ten minutes. The playground has several pieces of playground equipment and also an area with water. There is a small kiosk where you can buy something to drink. Admission is 0.50 euros per person. Surrounding the playground is also a small nature playground.

From the Burcht ter Cleeff playground, it’s just over a five-minute walk to the Haarlemmer KweekTuin, where you can do a variety of things with kids. Here is a nature playground, with some playground equipment over some water. There is also a playground near the nice café, where you can have something to eat and drink and is also a great place to have lunch or drinks, for example. You also have a gnome trail here for the very youngest kids.
From the Haarlemmer KweekTuin, it is just over a ten-minute walk back to the hotel. For us, a great round trip to walk in the afternoon and a fun activity when sleeping at the Ibis Styles Haarlem City with kids.

South-Kennemerland national park
In terms of location, the hotel is also very close to Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. By bike you can reach this national park in less than ten minutes. You can take a nice bike route here and you’ll be on the beaches of Bloemendaal and Zandvoort in no time. When we were there the weather was not so nice, but in summer you can get to the beach from the hotel in no time. This is a great advantage of the hotel’s location.
It is possible to rent bicycles at the hotel. Ask the hotel in advance what the options are regarding a child’s seat on the back of the bike.

Food and drink in hotel
There is no restaurant at the hotel where you can have lunch or dinner during the day. However, the hotel does serve breakfast. This breakfast is very well taken care of and you can choose from different breads, spreads, juices, eggs and so on. Also, breakfast has some special things like the packaged Macerons cookies. On that note, we left the hotel with a well-filled stomach and Sophie also ate very well. You can eat inside or outside at the hotel. In front of the hotel is also a narrow terrace with some tables and chairs.

Conclusion
We had a wonderful overnight stay at the Ibis Styles Haarlem City hotel. We could park the car in front of the door, we could walk to different playgrounds and and slept wonderfully. In addition, the next morning we had a delicious breakfast at the hotel. The hotel is also close to the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park and the beaches of Bloemendaal and Zandvoort.
