Last weekend we spent a weekend in Tiel with our 9-year-old daughter. Tiel is known as the Fruit City on the Waal River and we had a great time there with our daughter for an entire weekend. About this city we wrote the blog Tiel with kids, in which we listed all the children’s activities in the city. We stayed during our weekend in Tiel with our daughter at the van der Valk Hotel in Tiel and as a result of our overnight stay at this hotel, we are writing this comprehensive review of the hotel.
General information hotel
On Saturday afternoon, we drive up to the hotel in Tiel. The hotel is located slightly outside the center of the city of Tiel and is tremendously accessible from the highway. We drive into the spacious parking lot and park our car for free in front of the hotel. A minute later we are standing in the hotel’s beautiful lobby to check in.
What is immediately noticeable is that the hotel is very modern and it has not been long since the hotel was renovated. Around the hotel there is plenty to do. For example, there is a casino at the hotel and there is also a large fitness center at the hotel. By the way, guests of the hotel are allowed to use this as well, which of course is really a big difference from the small gym that hotels normally have.
The pool and sauna
The hotel has a large swimming pool and a sauna. Unfortunately, these were just closed for major maintenance when we visited the hotel. However, we do want to mention this in this blog, since of course it is really a big advantage that this is there at the hotel. It is always nice to relax in the pool and sauna after a day in the city.
There is also a spa in the hotel where you can go for all kinds of treatments and massages. By the way, we did not take advantage of this either.
The room
We had booked a family suite with the hotel and this room was really fantastic. This room was a whopping 90m2 and was located on the fifteenth floor of the hotel. As a result, we had a beautiful view of the surrounding area from the entire room.
Our room actually consisted of three different rooms. For example, both our daughter and we had separate bedrooms with two king-size beds, and between these bedrooms was a spacious living room. Also, this family suite had two more bathrooms, so we really had the space with our family. This room really felt tremendously luxurious.
For example, we had two stocked minibars where drinks were included in the hotel price. We had no less than 3 smart TVs (two in the bedrooms and 1 in the living room) and in the living room we had a spacious sitting area and dining room. We rarely had such a large hotel room.
In addition, both bathrooms were equipped with both a bathtub and a shower. So we could bathe two people at once in two different rooms. As a family, we love bathing immensely and for us it is also a really relaxing moment. Especially if you have been on a full day city trip with the family, it is nice to be able to relax in the room for a while.
In addition, the room had all the luxuries you expect from a room. The room had a working WIFI connection as well as climate control. For us, this fine hotel room contributed immensely to the nice weekend we had in Tiel with our daughter. By the way, the hotel has all kinds of other fantastic rooms and suites. Food and drink
When it comes to food and drink, you don’t have to leave the hotel either. For example, the hotel has a restaurant, a lobby bar and a sky bar. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant in the evening and it was very good! You can always choose from lots of different options at van der Valk hotels, and the food is really good quality, too.
We ourselves had a 3-course menu here, where we wonderfully enjoyed several beautiful dishes. Our daughter took advantage of the extensive children’s menu. Here she could also choose from three different dishes and of course the highlight for her was the ice cream served in the famous van der Valk children’s cups.
You can tell that the hotel is family-friendly by the large playroom available at the restaurant. There is plenty to do here for kids and our daughter had a great time after dinner while we had another drink at the restaurant.
In addition, the hotel has a sky bar (Sixx Skybar) where you can have another delicious drink on the top floor of the hotel. This is really a beautiful and very atmospheric space, where, of course, you have a wonderful view of the city. The hotel’s lobby bar is then the place to go for a drink with a nice piece of cake or a snack.
At both, unfortunately, we did not go back, because we dined quite long and our daughter was very tired afterwards and wanted to go to bed.
We also took advantage of the hotel’s breakfast buffet in the morning. We have visited several van der Valk hotels and the breakfast is always of tremendous quality and very extensive. You have a lot of different choices here in terms of sandwiches, juices, toppings, sweets, cereals, fruits and then we forget a lot of other things.
We could have a delicious omelet cooked by the cooks present in the restaurant and squeeze delicious fresh orange juice via a machine. Our daughter is generally quite a difficult eater, but she also always eats very well at this type of buffet. In fact, we then always eat so much at breakfast that we don’t have to eat again until late afternoon. Breakfast is highly recommended in this regard!
Conclusion
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the van der Valk Hotel in Tiel. You can easily park the car in front of the hotel and the hotel has several beautiful rooms where you can stay with the family. In terms of food and drink, you can get tremendously good deals at the hotel, so you don’t have to go out the door.
