In Mechelen you have several great options where you can sleep with a family with two kids and in this blog we list them. When we looked for a family hotel in Mechelen ourselves, we paid attention to the location of the hotel, looked at what the family rooms looked like and read the various reviews from other families. Based on these criteria, we have compiled a list of family-friendly hotels in Mechelen and we share them with you in this blog.
Table of contents
1. Novotel Mechelen Center
The first family-friendly hotel in Mechelen we review is the Novotel Mechelen Centrum. We also slept in this family hotel in Mechelen ourselves, so we can also give an excellent review about it. This hotel is right in the center of Mechelen and in two minutes you can walk from the hotel onto the Grote Markt (Mechelen’s central square).
Because Mechelen is not super big, we parked our car a little outside the center for free and walked from our parking spot to the hotel. The hotel has a modern and fresh look and still looks new. Near the reception, they have a play corner for kids, where our daughter played for quite a while.
The hotel offers several rooms, and the hotel’s largest rooms are suitable for families of four. You will have a triple room, but the sofa bed can easily sleep two kids. We had booked the triple room here and this room is very spacious. We slept in a double bed and our daughter slept on the sofa bed.
This family room in Mechelen was 24m2 and also had a spacious bathroom with both a bathtub and a shower. If we are going to book a room, this is a bonus for us if the bathroom has a bathtub. So at Novotel Mechelen Centrum, that is the case. Furthermore, the room is fully equipped with all conveniences, so you really have a very nice family room and we found the price-quality ratio of the room very good.
The hotel has a restaurant where you can eat and drink, and we only used the hotel’s breakfast here. That was very tasty and very elaborate! For lunch and dinner, we ate in the city of Mechelen. This is easily possible because of the hotel’s central location. Within walking distance are dozens of catering establishments and next to the hotel is also a large supermarket. Super convenient with kids.
Novotel Mechelen Centrum review
More than 250 families with kids have slept at the Novotel Mechelen Centrum and also rated the hotel. The overall score they gave this family hotel in Mechelen was a 9.3. We list the positive and negative points of the hotels based on all the reviews given by Dutch families of all the hotels in this list.
Positives Novotel Mechelen Centrum: The location is mentioned by most Dutch families as a positive point of the hotel. In addition, the breakfast, the spacious room with a bathroom with both a bathtub and a shower and the friendly staff are often mentioned as positive points of this family-friendly hotel in Mechelen.
Negative points Novotel Mechelen Centrum: a number of families indicated that they found parking near the hotel expensive. Of course, you can avoid that by parking your car a little outside the center, like us, so it won’t cost you any money.
2. Martins Patershof
Although this is also a family-friendly hotel in Mechelen, you can only sleep here with a family of three. Still, we wanted to include this hotel because it is such a beautiful hotel. When we came across this hotel online, we knew we wanted to sleep here during a city break to Mechelen with our daughter.
Also during this weekend trip to Mechelen, we parked the car for free just outside the city center and walked to the hotel. By the way, Martins Patershof does have a (paid) parking lot, but space there is limited. We booked the Exceptional Double room and asked the hotel if they would add a bed for our daughter. We honestly have no idea if two extra beds are also possible, but basically the room has plenty of space.
We thought this was one of the most beautiful rooms we have ever slept in with all those arches and all that stained glass. It really felt like a fairy tale room. In this spacious room equipped with all amenities, we had a large bathroom with whirlpool tub.
You can have breakfast only at the restaurant and the hotel also has a bar where you can have a drink. Because of the hotel’s central location, there are dozens of options around the hotel where you can grab some food and drinks with the family. Breakfast was very good and right in the middle of the church. They also served a glass of cava at breakfast which is obviously very luxurious.

If you are a family of five then the Hotel Elisabeth is a good choice. This hotel offers several family rooms in Mechelen, which are basically bookable for four people, but where you can specify in the requests that you want the hotel to add an extra bed in the room.
Then the parents sleep in a double bed, two kids sleep on the sofa bed and the third kid in the extra bed placed in the room. These rooms are very modern and very luxurious and contain all the amenities you need to relax after a day in the city.
Another big advantage of this hotel is that it has a swimming pool. If you are looking for a hotel in Mechelen with a swimming pool, then Hotel Elisabeth is the best choice. The hotel is located in the center of town and at the hotel’s bar you can have a drink. The hotel also serves breakfast to its guests in the morning.

The last accommodation in our list of family-friendly hotels in Mechelen is not a hotel, but a B&B. Positives Lunatree: The atmosphere of the house, the location and the friendliness of the host are mentioned as positives. The hosts of the house are also praised by many families for their hospitality.
As one enthusiastic parent describes the B&B: “The most tasteful and nicest B&B we have ever stayed at! Actually too many pluses to list, but still an attempt: the quiet patio plus winter terrace (with a wood stove and a flat-top fireplace), a large bath, very spacious master bedroom and lots of beautiful vintage design”
Negative points Lunatree: a number of families report that it is less pleasant that the bathroom is separate from the room, so you have to go through a common corridor to the family room bathroom. This bathroom, of course, is private.
