Hvar with kids: all the information about the island
A few days to Hvar with kids is fun! This Croatian island is known as the party island of Croatia, and if you love it, it’s all the more fun to visit. Still, there is more to do on the island than just party. We visited the island a few days after our city break in Split and put together all the information for a vacation to Hvar island with kids.

Hvar with kids: how to get there?
We fly cheaply with a budget airline to the city of Split and from here our journey through Croatia begins. We rent a car for the next few weeks and first we visit the city of Split. From here, it is also easy to take in the island of Hvar for a few days. Because we visit the city of Split first and then island Hvar, we rent the car only after visiting island Hvar.
As a result, we take the catamaran from Split to Hvar Island. In fact, you have the choice of traveling to the island with or without a car. Many families with kids will visit Croatia with their own car, in which case it’s convenient if you can take your car onto the island. Then you take the ferry and it takes a little longer than the catamaran (one hour and three quarters of an hour by ferry and about an hour by catamaran).
By catamaran you arrive on Hvar Island in the center of Hvar Town and by ferry you sail to Stari Grad and it is about another 15-minute drive to Hvar Town. For boat times and ticket reservations, check out the shipping company’s website.

Hvar with kids: attractions
You actually have two different places to stay on the island. These are the towns of Stari Grad and Hvar Town. Because we arrived by catamaran and arrived right in the center of Hvar Town, we spent the night here. This city is also doable in terms of nice places to eat and drink. The atmosphere is very cozy and of course in the harbor you can see the big boats and in some tents you can see the champagne flowing richly. If you, as a family, like more peace and quiet, Stari Grad is also a great place to stay.
So we did not have a car on the island ourselves and stayed mostly around Hvar Town. Of course, if you do have a car with you, you can easily drive around the entire island. However, it is possible if you do not have a car to take the bus between the two major towns. This bus runs several times a day between the two places.

Looking at the sights of the island, in Hvar Town you can take a tour of the cozy center and visit the fortress. Just keep in mind that it is quite a spirited climb up and with small kids this hike may be too hard. From the fort you have a beautiful view of the city and also the sea.
From the city you can undertake various activities. For example, you can take a sailing trip to the Pakleni Islands. But you can also visit these islands in Hvar with kids by kayak. At these islands, then, there is the possibility of snorkeling. It is also possible to explore the island by mountain bike with a guide. For the various options available on the island, take a look here.
You can also visit several beaches, but expect mostly pebble beaches. Krizna Luka beach is a few minutes’ walk from the center and is great for cooling off for an hour or two. The water is very clear and blue, though. From the city you can also take a boat to one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe Stiniva Beach. In the city itself, you can easily book this tour.
