What to do in Krk with kids?
#1 Krk city
The largest town to visit on the island of Krk with kids is Krk city. Despite being the largest town on the island, it is still more of a village. It is definitely fun to visit the center with kids with its narrow streets. You have many stores and restaurants here, where you can go for a snack and a drink.
You also have several churches and cathedrals here. The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary is the most famous sight in Krk city. There is also the Frankopan castle that you can visit with kids.
Besides touring the city, one option when the weather is not so good is to visit the city’s aquarium. It is not a very large aquarium, but it can be an option if, for example, it is raining and you still want to do something with kids.
In addition, in the warm summer months near Krk town there is also an Aqua Park. Near Koralj Beach you then have several inflatable air cushions in the water where kids can play. You pay per hour to play on the air cushions, but generally with our daughter, an hour is enough.
#2 Vela Plaza Beach
You can also go to several beautiful beaches on the island of Krk with kids. Especially if you have a car at your disposal then you can drive around the island and visit the different beaches during the summer months.
Vela Plaza: this is the most famous beach on Krk and is about 2 kilometers long. The beach consists of pebbles, so it is recommended to bring water shoes to the beach. The beach slopes gradually, making it a very family-friendly beach for kids as well.
In addition, you have plenty of facilities for families with kids. You can rent a bed with an umbrella here and there are several catering establishments near the beach for a snack and a drink. The beach also has a Blue Flag seal of approval, making it extremely suitable to go to in Krk with kids.
Golden Bay: this beach is located in the south of Krk and is known for the golden rocks, with which the beach is surrounded. You can reach this beach only by boat and the facilities on this beach are very limited. Potovosce beach: this pebbly beach is located in the east of the island of Krk. You can rent a bed with an umbrella on the beach here and there is a catering facility to have a drink. #3 Semisubmarine Krk
From Krk city you can take a submarine to explore the underwater world. Do not expect to see too many fish here, as you will be disappointed. It is an activity for young kids. To get to the starting point, you will take a ride in a jeep. This is already your first activity here. The maximum weight for this zipline is 115 kilograms. Best Travel Time Krk
The best travel time to visit the island of Krk with kids is from May through September. During these months the temperature regularly exceeds 20 degrees and you have the best chance of sunny weather.
Most families with kids visit Krk anyway partly because of the nice climate, and if you want to have the best chance of actually lying on the pool with the kids, then July and August are the most suitable months. Of course, these are also the busiest months in terms of tourism due to the international vacation period.
During this period, accommodations may be booked up faster and accommodation prices may be higher than in the other months. If you want to avoid these crowds on island Krk, it is best to travel to Krk with kids in the months of June or September.
Transportation to and in Krk
Most families with kids drive to island of Krk by car. This can be with their own car or a rental car. The airport close to island Krk is Rijeka airport. From here you can drive to the island by car within an hour. You can easily rent a car at Rijeka airport through the organization Sunny Cars.
