What to do on Coron: which tours are fun?
What to do on Coron? That’s what we wondered when we visited the Coron area for four days. You can book several tours in Coron and there are also some things to do in the area. We mainly went on the different tours and explain in this blog exactly what the different tours are that you can book in Coron. In addition, we recount our experiences in the village.

The village of Coron
The village of Coron doesn’t really amount to much. In any case, we found it very disappointing. Especially if you compare it to the village of El Nido on the other side of the water. You have one or two streets that do have some nice restaurants for backpackers, but then you’ve really had it.
We had breakfast at our hotel (Coron Soleil Garden Resort, hotel with a large pool), we had lunch on the various tours somewhere on the beach or on the boat, and we dined in the village of Coron most times at restaurant Altrove. Here you can sit upstairs on a sort of rooftop terrace and they have delicious pizza, pasta and other Italian dishes.
We also ate once at Pacifico Coron bar and restaurant following the good reviews this restaurant got and that was also very tasty. Dishes such as pasta, fries and wraps can be eaten at this restaurant. This restaurant is a bit less atmospheric than the Altrove restaurant, though.
The different day tours in Coron
You can book several tours in Coron and every little agency in the village also offers the same thing. Here you can choose between a private tour or a group tour. Obviously you pay more on a private tour, but you then have the advantage here of being able to decide more about how long you want to stay somewhere.
We ourselves always did a tour with a group. This pleased some times better than others. Actually all the times it was quite chaotic at the wharf (where all the boats leave). Sometimes the boat left at 8:30, but sometimes not until 9:30. We were picked up between 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. which meant that sometimes we were waiting on the dock for more than an hour before the boat left.
There are about 5 different tours that take a day and of these we did three. We discuss these below first and then discuss the other day tours.
Coron Island Super Ultimate tour: if you can only do one tour, we ourselves would recommend this one. It is the tour with the most highlights of the area in one day. We found this to be a very fun tour to do. You will visit Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Lake, Twin Lagoons, Beach 91, Balinsasayaw Reef, Twin Peaks Coral Garden and CYC Beach.
We liked the variety of beaches, lagoons and snorkeling spots. We had rented a kayak and were therefore able to take a kayak out on the water in two places as well. We really enjoyed doing that, too. If you are looking for a tour with lots of variety then this is really a very fine tour. You’re also not on the boat for a super long time all the time to go from one place to another, like on some other tours and that’s nice too.
Reefs and Wrecks Tours: we did this tour the first day and we did not think it was a good tour. On this tour, you will visit two shipwrecks, a coral snorkeling site and Pass Island. Why we did not find this tour super was first of all because we had to wait a long time at the dock and we were on a rather small boat with quite a lot of people. As a result, the room for movement on the boat was quite limited.
You first sail 1.5 hours to the first shipwreck and between the various sights you also sail between 30 and 40 minutes. Back again you also sail 2 hours back. As a result, you are on the boat quite a lot and there is much less time for the highlights themselves. We also found these highlights somewhat disappointing.
The two shipwrecks are beautiful, but we didn’t find it super impressive either. We did find Pass Island to be a beautiful island, but to book this tour for this, you would be better off booking the Island tour. On the Coron Island Super Ultimate tour, you will also go snorkeling at a shipwreck. As far as we were concerned, we did not recommend this tour.
Island Escapade tour: in this tour you visit three different islands and these islands are really beautiful. It is also about a 1.5-hour boat ride to these islands, but the islands themselves are all about 5 to 10 minutes by boat from each other. We knew this in advance, so we had kind of set ourselves up for it being a long trek.
What an advantage during this tour was that we had a slightly larger boat, which gave us a little more space on the boat. You will visit Malcapuya Island, Ditaytayan Island and Bulog Dos Island on this tour. All three islands are really beautiful and we really enjoyed them. It is mainly beach you visit this day, though.
Coron Town Tour: You can also do a day tour around Coron. Here you will visit various sights around the village. Thus, you will go up Mount Tapyas for a beautiful view, visit the local market and go to the Maquinit Hotspring. Of course, you can do all these things on your own transportation, but if you don’t feel like doing this, you can also go on a tour.
Calauit Safari with Black Island tour: you can also take a day trip to the zoo. The zoo has several African animals you can visit. We found the area around Coron with its beaches and lakes a little too nice to go on a tour towards the zoo, but if you are in Coron for a very long time then it can be a fun tour.
Multi-day tours in Coron
You can also go on a multi-day tour in Coron. These multi-day tours usually consist of 3 to 5 days. With these different tours, you often make some sort of combination of different day tours. Of course, that includes one or more overnight stays. These overnight stays are often on beautiful islands, but keep in mind that they are pretty basic. We ourselves chose to do a day tour each time and sleep in a fine air-conditioned hotel.
Where to stay in Coron?
We stayed overnight during our stay in Coron at the Coron Soleil Garden Resort. This was a nice hotel with a large pool. The rooms are spacious and we had breakfast included. That breakfast was fine, but not really super. For more information on the Coron Soleil Garden resort, take a look here.
