Best travel time Sitges with kids
The best travel time to visit Sitges with kids is from May through October. This is when the temperatures at this Spanish coastal town are the best. You have a good chance then that temperatures will be above 20 degrees and you can go to the pool or the beach. The best months to visit Sitges are July and August. During these months the temperatures are the best and you have the best chance of sunshine.
July and August are therefore also the busiest months of the year in Sitges. In the months of May, June, September and October you also certainly have many sunny days, but you do have a greater chance of changeable weather. Of course, it is annoying if the temperatures are not high enough for swimming, for example. One advantage of this period is that it is a lot less crowded in Sitges, which can be nice with kids.
Transportation to and in Sitges
You can get to Sitges just fine by car. Most families with kids also arrive in Sitges by car. Many families drive to Sitges from Europe for a sun vacation or come to Spain by plane and then rent a car. It is also possible to travel by train to Sitges with kids, as Sitges has its own train station.
If you go by plane then the easiest way is to fly into Barcelona’s international airport. From this airport it is just over a 20-minute drive to Sitges. Another option is to fly into Barcelona-Reus airport. From this airport it is another 45-minute car ride to Sitges.
You can easily rent a car at both airports through Sunny Cars. We find this a very nice rental company and always rent abroad with this organization. There is a whole package of insurances and fine conditions with the rental and this way we always go on the road with our daughter with a relaxed feeling. Look online to rent a car at Barcelona airport or rent a car at Reus airport.
The center of Sitges is a great place to walk with kids. The center is quite compact, making everything easy to reach. If you want to go to sights outside the center, you can possibly use the bus or cab if you do not have a car at your disposal. The train is also an option for some destinations.
Children’s activities Sitges
#1 Platja de l’Estanyol
Most families with kids visit Sitges because of the nice climate and the beautiful beaches you can visit here on the coast. You can visit more than ten different beaches around Sitges with kids. We always like it when we are on vacation in Spain with our daughter that we can go to a different beach every day for variety.
One of the most famous beaches in Sitges is Platja de l’Estanyol. This beach is close to the center and is one of the longest beaches in the area. You have several facilities here such as the rental of beds with an umbrella, lifeguards and toilets. You can very easily grab a bite and a drink from this beach at one of the eateries near the beach.
Another well-known beach to visit in Sitges with kids is Platja de la Fragata. This beach is very popular with families with kids. Also here you have many facilities and you have a promenade near the beach with many eateries. In addition, you can also rent a pedal boat at this beach with kids. Other beaches you can visit in Sitges with the family are Platja de la Barra, Platja de Sant Sebastià, Platja d’Aiguadolç and Platja de la Ribera.
Near the boulevard on Paseo de la Ribera, a tourist train also runs a route through town during the summer months. The ride takes about half an hour and it is a fun way to see a little more of Sitges with the kids. The cost for the little train is a few euros per person.
#2 Parc del Garraf
You can also go hiking with kids in the Sitges area. Parc del Garraf is a national park located just outside Sitges where you can go hiking. This is also a great place to escape the crowds in this resort during the summer months. You can walk several routes in this park and several routes are also suitable for families with kids.
If you are here in the summer months it is best to go hiking in the early morning or late afternoon because of the heat during the day. Of course when you go hiking bring plenty of water for the kids.
#3 Aqualeon
If you visit Sitges with kids during the hot summer months, it can also be nice to spend a day at a water park. Aqualeon is about a 40-minute drive from the center of Sitges, and you have several slides at this water park that are aimed mainly at younger kids. There are some slides where you need a minimum height of 1.2 meters.
You also have, in addition, three pools aimed at younger children, where there are also several playground equipment in the pool for the kids to play with. There is also a pool that produces artificial waves. Kids get a discount on the entrance ticket to this pool. Because the water park is located among the vineyards, you have a nice view of the surrounding area from the park.
In the summer months, the lines at the slide can be long. They work at this water park with a Fast Pass that you can purchase online. That way you have priority in the queue and you can go down the slide faster. Disadvantage is of course that if you do not have this pass you will actually have to queue longer for the slide. Look for the different slides, opening times and tickets on the Aqualeon website.
#4 PortAventura World
If you enjoy going to an amusement park as a family, this is possible near Sitges with kids. PortAventura World is a 45-minute drive from the center of Sitges and you can visit a total of 3 different parks here. They have a water park, an amusement park and a park where everything revolves around the car brand Ferrari. In each of these parks you can already enjoy a whole day.
In PortAventura Park you have 6 different themed worlds with a total of 40 different attractions. Here you have attractions suitable for young children as well as attractions suitable for older kids and adults. Besides all these attractions, there are also several shows you can watch in this amusement park with kids.
In fact, you have more than 20 different shows here, which means you have already spent almost an entire day entertained by just the shows. There is also a parade through the park, like you have at Disneyland, for example. You also have more than 10 different restaurants in the park, so it is best to find out some things about this park in advance, in order to get the most out of your day in the park.
The water park you have here also has several slides, but you don’t have to drive all the way to PortAventura World for that. Of course, you can also go to Aqualeon water park just fine, since this water park is a little closer to Sitges.
The third park you can visit here is Ferrari Land. This is a fun park if you kids like cars. You have 16 different attractions for young and old in this park. For more information about all three of these parks, take a look at the PortAventura World website.
#5 Barcelona
You can very easily make a day trip to Barcelona from Sitges with kids. By car you can be in the center of Barcelona from Sitges in just over half an hour. It is also possible to travel to Barcelona by train from Sitges. It takes 40 minutes by train and you have no hassle with parking in the center of Barcelona.
We have visited Barcelona several times and we are never bored in this metropolis. If you visit Barcelona for the first time then it is fun to take a tour of the various world-famous sights of the city such as the Sagrade Familia, Ramblas and Park Güell. You can then very easily buy a ticket for one of the many red hop on hop off buses in the center and explore the city that way.
These buses stop at the main attractions in the city and that way you can see a lot in a day’s time of Barcelona. There are also plenty of fun things for kids to do in the city. For example, you have several family-friendly parks and museums that you can visit in Barcelona.
