This sunny resort is known for its beautiful beaches, family-friendly activities and relaxed atmosphere. We visited this popular resort with our daughter and in this blog we would like to share our experiences, tips and the best children’s activities in Playa de las Américas.
Best travel time Playa de las Américas with kids
You can basically visit Playa de las Americas with kids all year round. Temperatures can exceed 20 degrees in Playa de las Americas throughout the year. The most likely time for this to happen is from June through September, as temperatures then range between 20 and 30 degrees.
We ourselves visited Playa de las Americas in October and then the weather was fine and it was also not too hot so you could do things with the family. Especially in the evening it did cool down. This was also a period when Tenerife was not very crowded, even though at the main attractions of the island there are tourists throughout the year.
Transportation in and to Playa de las Américas
From Tenerife’s airport you can drive to Playa de las Américas by car in about fifteen minutes. It is advisable to rent a car right at the airport to get around on the island. We stayed on the island for 8 days and enjoyed having a car at our disposal. We used the car a lot.
We had rented this car through the organization Sunny Cars. We actually always rent our car anywhere in the world with this company. They have an all inclusive car rental package and we are very much fans of that. That way a rental car is never a hassle and you can hit the road with peace of mind. Children’s activities Playa de las Américas
#1 Beaches
Most families with kids visit resort Playa de las Américas because of its nice climate and beautiful beaches. In Playa de las Américas you have 3 different beaches that you can visit with the family. These are the beaches Playa de Troya, Playa del Camisón and Playa Honda. Finally, you also have Playa de las Vistas that lies between the two resorts Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje.
Playa de Troya is a family-friendly beach with many facilities such as the rental of beds with an umbrella. You also have around the beach many catering establishments where you can go with kids for a snack and a drink. It is also possible to practice various water sports with kids at this beach.
Another beach that is very suitable for kids is Playa del Camison. The sea slopes gently here and the sandy beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. You can also rent a bed and umbrella here, but in high season you have to be on time. A disadvantage of most beaches is that there are many vendors with all kinds of stuff along the people on the beach.
#2 Center Playa de las Américas
You can use Playa de las Americas as a great base to visit the rest of the island. This resort is cozy and lively. You have a long promenade with lots of restaurants and stores, where you can go with the family to eat or shop. You can also easily book tours here.
For example, boat tours where you go in search of dolphins and whales are popular to book. These tours are also suitable to take with kids. Also, in several places in Playa de las Americas you can play a game of mini golf with the kids. Playa de las Americas is also known for its nightlife, but you as a family will usually not notice much of that in the evenings.
#3 Water parks
You can go to 2 nice water parks in the area of Playa de las Américas with kids. We visited both of them with our daughter and personally we found Aqualand Tenerife the nicest water park of the two. This water park has many fun slides and in terms of crowds in the water park it wasn’t too bad. Because of this we didn’t have to wait long at most of the slides, which was very nice.
Aqualand Tenerife is a 10-minute drive from the center of Playa de las Américas and you can park your car in front of the door for free. We enjoyed ourselves here all day with our daughter. The second park you can visit in the Playa de las Américas area with kids is Siam Park. This is a beautiful water park about a 10-minute drive from Playa de las Américas, but this water park is very crowded. We found it just a little too crowded with our daughter. The lines at the various slides were very long. You can avoid this by buying a fastpass for these slides, but of course you pay extra for this.
Still, we had a great time for an entire day here at this water park. The water park has been chosen several times as the best water park in the world for a reason. #4 Island of Tenerife
We definitely recommend taking a tour of the island by car if you are visiting Playa de las Américas with kids. The island is not super big and the roads are in good condition. You can therefore see quite a lot of the island in one day. We made several day trips to different places on the island during our vacation in Tenerife with our daughter.
The most famous attraction on the island that you can see with kids is the volcanic landscape El Teide. This is really a fairytale landscape and it is fun to visit this area with kids. Kids can also climb on the rocks in different places here and the place is also very photogenic. We spent about half a day here with our daughter.
In addition, you have several other beautiful beaches on the island that you can visit with the family and there are also several natural areas on Tenerife where you can go hiking with the kids. Family-friendly restaurant Playa de las Américas
Playa de las Américas has many catering establishments and therefore it is not difficult to eat in Playa de las Americas with kids. There are plenty of family-friendly restaurants you can go to and the options are very diverse. From Spanish tapas restaurants to international restaurants. Below we list some family-friendly restaurants in Playa de las Americas.
Limonella: this Italian restaurant is located near the Playa de las Américas beach and you can eat pasta and pizza here with kids. You can eat here outside on the terrace and it can be very busy at the restaurant, so you have to wait a while before your turn. Also, the desserts (teramisu) are very tasty at the restaurant.
Imperial Tai Pan: This is a family-friendly restaurant in Playa de las Américas where you can eat delicious Asian food. The menu is very diverse and you can eat here from different Chinese dishes to sushi. For kids, I am sure there are also several tasty dishes they can eat here.
Mr. Singh: we love Indian restaurants, partly because there are lots of vegetarian dishes on the menu. The price-quality ratio of this family-friendly restaurant is very good and if you have leftover food you can always take it back to your hotel room. You can choose how spicy you want your food to be.
