Last fall vacation we visited the province of Friesland and also visited the family-friendly city of Leeuwarden. We have visited Leeuwarden before and wrote about this city the blog Leeuwarden with kids, in which we listed all children’s activities of the city. During our last city trip to Leeuwarden we slept in hotel Vie Via in the city center and because of this stay we write this extensive review about this hotel.
General information hotel
Hotel Vie Via is located in the center of Leeuwarden and therefore most of Leeuwarden’s great attractions are within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel does not have its own parking garage, but there are several parking garages around the hotel. We first dropped off our bags at the hotel and then parked the car at parking garage Hoeksterend, which is a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. They charge a maximum rate of 4 euros for an entire day, so we didn’t spend much money on parking.
When we enter the hotel, we immediately notice the informal atmosphere in the hotel. It does look a bit like a hostel, but the hotel is really a lot more luxurious than a hostel. The decor is very hip and there is a nice living room, where it is possible to watch TV or play games with kids.
The room
We booked the family room at the hotel and this family room is 31m2. You really have the space here and like the rest of the hotel, this room is also very nicely decorated. This family room is suitable for families with 4 people. We sleep in a king size bed and our daughter in a bunk bed.
You can separate this bunk bed with a door, so our daughter kind of has her own room. On the wall by the bunk bed there are all these cute little figures, which makes it really a room that is fun for kids as well. Even though the room is laid out in a very playful way, the room is really luxurious. For example, the toiletries you can use in the room are from the expensive Marie Stella Maris brand.
In addition, the room has a climate controller, a safe, a rain shower and a well-functioning WIFI connection. Especially the latter is always very nice with kids! Keep in mind that there is no refrigerator and TV in the room, but downstairs in the living room it is possible to watch TV and you can buy a drink in the store downstairs.
Both the front door of the hotel and door of your room can be opened on your phone via a link. You will receive an e-mail with your digital key to access the hotel and your room. We found this super convenient, as we sometimes leave the key to our room in the room. That way you always have the key with you and you can use multiple phones to open the different doors in the hotel.
Food and drink
Hotel Vie Via does not have a restaurant in the hotel, but is obviously located right in the center. As a result, there are dozens of dining options within walking distance of the hotel. Next to the hotel is the Grand Café Post-Plaza, where you can go for a snack and a drink. There is also a store on the first floor, where you can buy various things to eat and drink.
In the morning we did have breakfast at the hotel. This was a different system that we were used to. We were given a list of products and we could choose from different items at the store. We really liked this hotel a lot. You have different breads here, sweets and also a delicious yogurt with all kinds of ingredients. Therefore, we really liked the breakfast at the hotel.
Conclusion
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the Vie Via Hotel in Leeuwarden. This is really a hip hotel located right in the center of Leeuwarden. The atmosphere in the hotel is nice and informal and the family rooms are very spacious and luxurious. You can tell that the hotel has not been around for a long time, as everything looks really new. We had a delicious breakfast here in the morning, so we left the hotel with a well-filled belly.
