Fuerteventura with kids: car rental
If you are going to do the activities described below in Fuerteventura with kids, then a car might come in handy. Basically, there is public transportation in the city, but having your own car can obviously be an option. We actually find the cars from Sunny Cars are always top notch!

RIU Oliva Beach Resort: We are always fans of the RIU hotel chain, because these hotels are always very family-friendly and the quality is high. We have booked vacations at RIU hotels several times and they are actually always good. At RIU Oliva Beach Resort, you walk straight from the resort to the beach. The resort has two large swimming pools, one of which is specifically for kids.
RIU Oliva Beach Resort has a mini-club for two different age groups (for children ages four to seven and for kids ages eight to 12), where kids can be entertained, and the hotel also has a playground for kids. The resort has the all inclusive formula, which means all food and drinks are included in the price.

H10 Ocean Suites: This is a very popular hotel among Dutch tourists and the hotel has two large pools and also two pools especially for kids. These pools are heated. At this Fuerteventura hotel you can take kids to the children’s disco in the evening, and there is also entertainment at the hotel during the day.
The hotel has a mini-club for kids ages four to 12, and there is also a playground for kids at the hotel. You can choose both half board and all inclusive in terms of care at the hotel.

Fuerteventura with kids #1: Beaches
Most families visit the island of Fuerteventura with kids because of the sun and the beach. Throughout the year, the temperature hardly drops below 20 degrees, which of course makes it an attractive destination even in winter. However, the island is known for its wind. The name Fuerteventura also means strong wind. As a result, it is not often tremendously hot even in the summer months. Of course, you have plenty of great family-friendly beaches on the island, which we list below.
Corralejo beach: this beach is located at the island’s most famous resort and you have no less than 11 kilometers of beach here. The two beaches located near the town itself actually have all the facilities you need with kids. They are on the promenade and you have plenty of restaurants and cafes for a bite to eat and a drink. Here they also have several well-known beach clubs sitting there, such as Waikiki Beach Club, for example.
From the center of the resort of Corralejo, you can drive a little further south in a few minutes by car and you will reach the beautiful beaches of Playa de Las Dunas. These start roughly at the two Riu Hotels you come across that face the beach. It is also nice to lie on the beach at these hotels, and you can rent beach beds and an umbrella here for a very reasonable price. You also have a few beach bars here for snacks and drinks, and the sea here is fairly cleared of all its stones, making it easier for your kids to go into the sea here.
If you drive by car a little further south, you will come to beautiful white beaches with clear sea. A little less facilities, but in terms of the beauty of the beach, it’s a winner. However, there can be a breeze here. You are here the Natural Dunas de Corralejo nature reserve and at some stretches it seems like you have entered a desert area.
Playa Sotavento: located in the south of the Spanish island near the resort of Jandia, this beach is also considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura. The beach has a length of 9 kilometers and there is no mass tourism here. This does limit the facilities at this beach. For kids, the beach is ideal as it is wide and the huge difference in ebb and flow creates lagoons in which they can play. You can also snorkel well here.
Playa Costa Calma: another beautiful beach to visit during your Fuerteventura vacation with kids is a few minutes’ drive away from Playa Sotavento. Playa Costa Calma is near the town of Costa Calma and also has beautiful white beaches, clear water and here you also have plenty of facilities such as catering outlets, a supermarket and beds with umbrellas. In the northern part of the beach you have the beaches where most families are.
Playa Morro Jable: This beach is also located near a seaside resort (Morro Jable) and also has all the facilities needed for an ideal day at the beach. You can also grab a drink and a bite to eat here at the catering tents on the promenade, and it is also a great place to go shopping at the town’s malls. This beach is located at the very south of the island.

#2 Waterpark Baku Aquapark: This is the largest water park on the island and is located in the resort of Corralejo. The pool has some spectacular slides for the older kids, as well as some children’s slides for the slightly younger kids. There is also a wave pool and a lazy river, where you can float in a tire with the current and take a lap. The water park also has a kids club, where they offer a lot of entertainment for the kids. In short, a water park where you can have a great day on Fuerteventura with kids.
#3 Oasis Wildlife Park: this park is a combination of a botanical garden and an animal park. Thus, the park has 8,000 plants and 3,000 animals, including 400 camels. Among the animals you can admire are some great African animals such as the hippopotamus, the giraffe, several monkeys, the elephant and the crocodile. The botanical garden has a lot of different types of plants, including a lot of species of cacti. The animal park also offers different types of experiences, which you can reserve for. So you have an elephant, giraffe, lemur, sea lion and camel experience at the park.
Fuerteventura with kids #4: Lobos Island
You can also visit an uninhabited island near Fuerteventura with kids. Lobos Island is located north of Fuerteventura and is a virtually uninhabited nature reserve, which you can take an excursion to from Fuerteventura. From the port of the seaside resort of Corralejo, you can visit this island by boat. This crossing takes about twenty minutes.
The island is home to various animals including lizards and many different species of birds. You can do great snorkeling in the sea around the island, so be sure to bring your snorkeling equipment during your trip to the island. It is possible to hike a circuit around the island, but you should allow for three to four hours. For families with young kids, that will be a little too long.
Don’t expect too many amenities on this island. The island has a toilet block and a restaurant, where you must make reservations in advance if you want to eat here. Of course, it is also possible to bring your own food and picnic on the beach. Be sure to bring plenty of water when visiting this island with your family!
Fuerteventura with kids: other activities!
In addition to the activities mentioned above, there is even more you can do in Fuerteventura with kids. We briefly list the other activities below.
#5 Glass bottom boat: there are several companies that offer a trip on this boat at different places on the island. For young kids, this can be a good alternative if they can’t swim and snorkel yet and still see some of the underwater world around the island. The places where these excursions are offered are Corralejo, Puerto Castillo and Morro Jable.
#6 Surfing with kids: of course, on the island of “strong winds,” you can also go wave surfing with your kids. The island is also sometimes called surf capital of Europe. You can rent a board and wetsuit from one of the many stores in the various villages on the island. It is also possible to take surfing lessons at the various surf schools on the island.
#7 Dolphin/Whale spotting: it is possible to go on a boat from the resort of Morro Jable to spot these animals. Several excursions are offered, with tour lengths varying from 1.5 hours to and entire day. So you can go out for a whole day, stopping at various places along the way to go swimming and snorkeling as well.
You can then encounter small sharks and turtles in addition to whales and dolphins. Of course, these are wild animals and you never have a guarantee whether you will be able to see all of them. If you are on the water for a whole day instead of 1.5 hours, then of course the chances are a bit higher. It also depends a bit on how old your kids are, for how many hours you want to be on the water.
#8 Dune baby carriage tour: a spectacular activity in Fuerteventura with kids is riding in a baby carriage car. The tour starts from the resort of Corralejo and you drive the baby carriage right into the natural park of the dunes. Your kids must be three years old or older to sit next to you as a passenger. From the dunes you will drive to Villaverde where you will go off-road by baby carriage and drive through the middle of the volcanic area until you arrive at Parque Holandés. In total, an excursion lasts about 3 hours and you will go on a guided tour in a procession of baby carriages.
#9 Natural pools of Aguas Verdes: in the northwest of the island, you will find these natural pools in Fuerteventura. It is an area of about six kilometers where you will find coves and pools everywhere, where you can pick your own private pool. Among the rocks you can encounter various crabs and squirrels are also frequently spotted here.
#10 Ajuy Caves: in the village of Ajuy you can visit these caves on Fuerteventura with kids. From the black beach you can walk to these caves. However, you do need to wear good shoes if you want to do this hike. Even the black beach is already fun to visit here.
