During the Ascension vacation we stayed from Wednesday to Sunday at Camping hu Birkelt village with our 10 year old daughter in Luxembourg. A super family-friendly campsite, where you can spend the whole day at the campsite just fine. We stayed in a lodge tent through the Suncamp organization. There is plenty of entertainment for kids! In addition, the campsite is located in beautiful surroundings. In this blog we will give you all the information about this family-friendly campsite in Luxembourg.
Facilities campsite Larochette
Camping Hu Birkelt Village is really a very family-friendly campsite, and you can tell that from everything. For example, they have both an indoor and an outdoor pool, which is really ideal. We had days with beautiful warm weather, but also a few cooler days – and on all days we could still swim with our daughter. That was a treat for her, of course, but also very nice for us.

The indoor pool in particular is perfect if you are traveling with young kids. There are large areas that are shallow, allowing kids to play and splash safely. And there is also a kind of inflatable pillow in the water that kids can climb and slide on. Our daughter really loved that! Outside there is a pool with a small slide, especially for little ones.
There are plenty of sunbeds with umbrellas around the outdoor pool, so as a parent you can also relax while the kids play in the water. There is also a terrace by the pool where you can have a drink, although unfortunately it was not open at the time we were there – maybe that was due to the time of day or season.

What is also very nice for kids: in the middle of the campsite you will find a mini-club. All kinds of activities are organized here, from crafts and drawing to games. Our daughter really enjoyed spending time here and immediately connected with other kids. The mini-club is well attended, especially in high season, and there is always something fun to do. Just be aware that the miniclub is not open all day long, so check opening hours in advance.

In addition, there are playgrounds scattered throughout the campground, which is really top-notch – you just run into one on the way to the pool or restaurant, and the kids immediately want to play. For the older kids there is also plenty to do: there is a small game room where you can play games for a fee, a bocce court, badminton court, beach volleyball court, a soccer field and several table tennis tables scattered around the site. So there is something for everyone!

And of course there is an animation team. This team speaks several languages and organizes all kinds of activities for kids during the day and evening. Among other things, our daughter participated in a bingo and the mini disco, which was a great success. She was even supposed to participate in a musical, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to bad weather. Still, there were really plenty of fun times and the animation team was very enthusiastic.

What we also really liked: because the campground is so geared toward families with kids, there were really only other families there. As a result, our daughter quickly made friends to play with – at the pool, in the playground or in the mini-club. And that also made it a lot more relaxing for us as parents: we could occasionally lie in the sun with a book while she was having fun. Really a nice atmosphere and perfect place for a vacation with kids!

SunLodge Lodgetent Yucca
We booked a lodge tent through Suncamp during our vacation, and it was really perfect for our family of three. The tent was fully equipped and actually felt more like a small vacation home than a tent. By the way, you also have larger versions at the campsite, suitable for families of up to seven people.

These have an extra tent next to the main tent with two beds in it and are more spacious. Ideal if you are traveling with a large family or with grandparents.
Our lodge tent had two separate sleeping areas: one with a comfortable double bed for us and a room with a bunk bed for our daughter. She of course immediately loved that bunk bed. What we ourselves found really great was that the tent simply had its own bathroom. So a private shower, toilet and sink – no lugging toilet rolls or waiting at the sanitary building. Really a piece of extra comfort that we were very happy with as a family.

The kitchen in the tent was also surprisingly complete. It even had a dishwasher! We really liked that, because then you don’t have to stand around doing dishes on vacation. Every morning we got fresh baguettes and other rolls from the camp store, and then we could have breakfast at our leisure at the tent.
Inside was a cozy breakfast table, but we actually sat most of the time outside on the spacious terrace. There was a nice dining table and two nice sunbeds on which we could relax in the sun. You really have your own place there, with enough space and privacy.

What is also not unimportant: there was air conditioning in the tent. It worked both as a cooler and a heater. On hot days we turned it on to cool down, and on cool mornings it provided some warmth. So we could always keep it comfortable inside, regardless of the weather. We found that really a big plus. In short: the tent really had everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable vacation with kids.
Besides these lodge tents, by the way, you can book other family-friendly accommodations on the campsite, such as mobile homes. These are also fully equipped and can be a good alternative if you prefer not to stay in a tent. Whatever you choose: you’re really in the right place here with kids! Check out Suncamp’s website for more information about the family-friendly accommodation at Hu Birkelt Village campsite that you can book.

Food and drink camping
In terms of food and drink, you’re in the right place at Hu Birkelt Village campground. There is a restaurant on the campsite itself where you can have a nice meal. The menu is quite extensive, with plenty of choice – mostly Italian dishes, but also other tasty things. And fortunately, they’ve thought carefully about the kids, too. There are plenty of family-friendly options on the menu, so there’s always something the little ones will like, too.
What we personally found very convenient was the special children’s menu. It includes a dish and a drink for a fixed, low price. Super convenient and affordable. Our daughter loved it, and so did we. In total we have eaten out twice in the restaurant together, and we really liked it. The food was delicious, the service friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. We did notice that on weekends it can be quite busy. So if you want to be sure of a table then, it is smart to make a reservation in advance.

If you don’t feel like dining at length, you can also just pick up the food at the restaurant. That’s what we did one evening. Nice and easy: picking up food and then eating it at the tent. Especially with young kids it is sometimes better than a whole dinner.
There is also a camp store, which is ideal for everyday things. They have fresh baguettes and all kinds of breads for breakfast in the morning – always nice to start your day right. You can also get other staples there just fine. But if you’re planning to do a lot of cooking yourself or eat really elaborate meals, it’s smart to get some larger groceries in advance at a supermarket nearby. The campsite store is handy, but a bit limited in its range.
If you feel like eating off-site, the center of Larochette is also a good option. It is close by. You can walk there via a long stairway from the campground – a nice walk if you like a little exercise. We had a drink on a terrace there once, but then we didn’t feel like walking back up, so we just went by car. Within a few minutes you are there, and there are plenty of restaurants to eat something tasty or just have a drink.

Suncamp App
A handy app you can download in advance is Suncamp’s app. This contains a lot of information and in it you can also find the information about your booking that you made through this organization.
Surroundings
The surroundings of camping Hu Birkelt Village are truly beautiful. You are in the middle of a green and hilly area here, making it perfect for hiking – even with kids. There are several hiking trails from the campground that you can start right away. Some routes are short and good to do with young kids, while others are a bit more challenging for older kids or if you are traveling with teenagers.

In addition, it is also great to go out by car. There are plenty of nice places and attractions in the area that you can easily reach. Think of castles, quaint villages, viewpoints and playgrounds. Highly recommended if you are looking for a little variety during your vacation.
