Zeeland with kids: fun cities

You can visit some great cities in Zeeland with kids. We discuss some of them below.

#1 Middelburg: The capital of Zeeland is perhaps the nicest city in the province. The center is very cool to visit and they have many nice stores and cozy terraces. Furthermore, you can climb the Lange Jan tower for a great view of Middelburg, and you can also see the city from the water by taking a canal cruise. In addition, in Middelburg you have Mini Mundi amusement park which is fun to visit for the very youngest kids. For detailed information, read our blog Middelburg with kids.

#2 Goes: this is also a very pleasant city with a very compact center. The surroundings of Goes are beautiful and we explored the area here on e-scooters. In addition, we slept here in one of the best hotels in Zeeland: hotel Katoen Goes. We wrote a blog about this activity in Namur and the hotel called Goes with kids.

#3 Vlissingen: To this city we have been no less than twice. This city also has a cozy center with many terraces near the water. You have a number of activities here that you can visit with kids in the city such as Arsenal, Iguana Zoo and playground Lammerenburg, but the city is also definitely a good base to visit Vlissingen’s nice surroundings with its fun playgrounds and beautiful beaches. We wrote about Vlissingen the blog Vlissingen with kids.

#4 Renesse: This town is known as a vacation destination where many young people go during the summer in the Netherlands. There is also plenty to do in this part of Zeeland with kids. Near Renesse you can go seal watching and also Renesse has a very nice gnome forest. The gnome forest is not super big, but very nice to walk through when visiting the city. We found the center of Renesse very cozy with lots of terraces, where you can have excellent lunch at noon.

#5 Hulst: This town is perhaps the most unknown town in Zeeland in this list, but is definitely worth a day’s visit. This fortified city has two fun scavenger hunts for kids to walk and explore the city in a fun way. There are also some nice playgrounds for kids and you have plenty of fun things to see in the area as well. We wrote the blog Hulst with kids about this city.

Zeeland with kids: fun beaches

You can go to a lot of beaches in Zeeland with kids, of course. In total, there are many kilometers of beach, so you won’t be sitting hut to hut anytime soon. We list the best beaches in Zeeland.

#6: Zoutelande: we think this is one of the finest beaches in Zeeland. The beach is clean, spacious and kids can play there. We have been to Zoutelande many times and actually the beach is never really super crowded. Kids love it when the tide goes out to catch crabs and other fish near the poles on the beach.

We stayed several times at camping de Meerpaal, where you actually walk right from the campsite onto the beach. At this campground (which you can also go to if you are not a guest) you have a nice playground, trampoline and water playground. The restaurant also offers delicious food on the terrace.

#7 Dishoek: this beach is next to Zoutelande beach and the great advantage of Dishoek is that you can park your car there for free in the large parking lot behind the beach. Dishoek also has a nice little center with a number of terraces. By the way, every beach we mention here has several beach bars, so you don’t have to worry that you can’t get food or drinks on the beach.

#8 Renesse: we just mentioned Renesse as a town, but the beach of Renesse is also fun to visit. It gave us a huge vacation feeling when we walked onto the beach and saw all those colored beach houses along the sea. We also saw dozens of seals lying on dry stretches here (for this you do need a camera with zoom or binoculars to see them). This beach is also spacious and very clean.

#9 Cadzand and Cadzand Bad: these beaches are childhood memories, as we vacationed here in the May vacations thirty years ago. The beach is known for its shark teeth that you can find here. Naturally, we bought a strainer at the local toy store and got to work.

You see almost everyone on the beach looking at the ground in search of a shark’s tooth. In the end, we found lots of shiny black stones and a stone/tooth? which looked a little like it. Oh well we had a good time at the beach with our daughter and that is the most important thing!

Zeeland with kids: fun playgrounds

You can take kids to several fun playgrounds in Zeeland. We list the most fun playgrounds we visited.

#10: Hof van Poppendamme: Near Vlissingen is this playground. The setting here is very relaxed. A large garden has benches and tables everywhere, where parents sit and enjoy a drink while the kids are playing in the garden. The playground is not super big, but it is a good place to have lunch if you are in Zeeland with kids.

#11: Klok’uus: this playground has already been voted the best outing in Zeeland with kids. The first time we visited Klok’uus, the terrace and playground were closed and we explored the area on e-harlies. We found this to be a very cool activity to do with our daughter.

A few weeks later we also visited the playground and it is also highly recommended if you go to Zeeland with kids. You have inflatables, a mega trampoline, a whole course, a playground and a go-kart track here. Enough entertainment to keep you and your kids entertained for a few hours. An indoor playground is also available for when the weather is less clement. You can also have a great lunch there.

#12: Lammerenburg Playground: this playground is located in a residential area in Vlissingen, but is definitely fun to visit if you are in this city in Zeeland with kids. For this playground you only pay a very small fee for the kids and in this large playground they have a lot of different playground equipment. For the smallest kids, there is another separate area in the playground especially for them. There are also several trampolines, which kids can take turns on until the buzzer rings.

#13 Playground Meliskerke: This large playground is located near Zoutelande. You pay almost nothing for this playground either (for kids, you have to pay a euro and put this euro in a bin at the playground). You have a variety of play equipment and it is definitely a fun playground to visit for an hour (or two) if you are in Zeeland with kids.

#14 Speelboerderij Pierewiet: This play farm is located in Nieuwvliet near Cadzand. At this large playground you have several trampolines, playground equipment and also a large traffic garden, where kids can ride go-karts. In addition, there is a kind of observation tower in the shape of a lighthouse. Also at this play farm, you have an indoor playground with an engineering loft attached as well, where kids can do crafts. Of course, there are also various farm animals such as a donkey, a piglet, a pony and more of the kind.

Zeeland with kids: other activities

#15 : Bakery Sonnemans: when we posted a call on our Instagram page for good tips in Zeeland with kids, we received several responses that we should go to bakery Sonnemans to taste a real Zeeland bolus. Of course, we drove by here and we must say that they had very tasty things here, including a very hot fresh bolus. The bakery inside really looks like a nostalgic store.

#16: Seal watching: we really wanted to see seals when we were in Zeeland anyway, and there is a place in Zeeland where you have a very good chance of seeing them. When you drive a little north of Renesse to Brouwersdam you drive along the sea and near Dicks Taria Snackbar you have two humps (see google maps). Between those two humps there are very often seals. If you are near it, you probably already see a lot of people standing behind the fence watching the seals.

#17: Neeltje Jans: unfortunately, Neeltje Jans was not open when we were there. We will definitely return again to visit the water park here and take the boat to visit the Delta Park. You can also admire sea lions and seals here. We slept in a B&B near Neeltje Jans in Kamperland at B&B d’Ouwe Smidse. We wrote an extensive review about this B&B.

#18: Browse villages: Zeeland has many different picturesque villages that it is fun to walk through and have a drink. For example, you have the well-known tourist villages such as Domburg and Veere, which are very touristy and where you can have a drink with your kids on the terrace. At Domburg, you can also visit the beach. This is a short walk from downtown. However, you do pay quite a parking fee for your car in these villages!

#19 Klimpark Kanoa: You can also go to a fun climbing park in Zeeland with kids. Climbing park Kanoa is just over a 15-minute drive from Middelburg. We thought this was a super cool climbing park because we got to climb really high here with our daughter. This is not the case at most climbing parks. Here we were allowed to climb up to 12 meters with our daughter who is just 1.25 meters, which she obviously thought was very cool.

You have several courses at different heights at the climbing park. Of course, the difficulty also depends on the altitude. You also have some cool ziplines, including two ziplines that go over a lake. We spent half a day here and had a great time at this climbing park.

In that regard, this is an activity in Zeeland with kids that you can do with the whole family, as it is also a fun activity for the parents. For more information on opening hours, entrance fees and different courses, take a look at the climbing park’s website.

Where to sleep in Zeeland with kids?

We have slept in several accommodations during our vacations in Zeeland with our daughter. In B&Bs, hotels, as well as camping. Zeeland is of course a large area, but if you sleep in one of the towns then this is a great base to explore the rest of Zeeland.

From the cities mentioned above, all the activities we have mentioned here can be reached in no more than 20 minutes by car. We always stay overnight in a different town to explore a different part of Zeeland each time. Click on one of the cities below for a list of accommodations available for families in that city.
