What to do in Wassenaar with kids: 5 top activities!
You can have a great weekend in Wassenaar with kids! The village is not super big, yet there are enough activities for families to keep you entertained for at least two days. In addition, the village is near major cities such as The Hague and Leiden, so there is plenty to do in the Wassenaar area as well. Following several visits to the village, we list the best activities in Wassenaar with kids!
Table of contents
Wassenaar with kids #1: Duinrell
The most famous activity you can do in Wassenaar with kids is visiting Duinrell amusement park. We think this is a really cool amusement park, which we have already visited several times with our daughter. The amusement park has about forty different attractions and these are suitable for both young and older kids.
You can have a great time here for a whole day at this amusement park and it is even possible to have a whole weekend. They often have great promotions in conjunction with the various lodging options around the theme park. We also slept there once in the campground near the amusement park and liked that very much.
In addition, the amusement park has a great water park, which you can use for two hours. The water park has dozens of spectacular slides and we visited this water park in the evening (after we had already been to the amusement park during the day). For more information about this amusement park, check out the Duinrell website.
Wassenaar with kids #2: Monkey forest
You can also get out into nature with kids in Wassenaar! Dune reserve Meijendel is fun to visit and you have several play opportunities for kids here. We parked the car for free at Meyendel farm and from here it is a short walk to the Monkeybos.
The Monkey Forest is a play forest with a variety of play equipment for kids. For example, here you have tubes you can climb through, ropes that kids can hang from and especially many trees that are very suitable for climbing. Our daughter always loves this kind of climbing activity and in total we spent about an hour in the forest here, I think. After all, it is not a very large forest, but it is fun to go to for a while.
At Meijendel farm, lunch is also very nice. We did the same here at noon and they have quite a few options to choose from besides the pancakes they serve. You can be cozy inside or outside. Near the farm is also a water playground and a small playground. It’s all not super big, but on a sunny day you can have a great time here for an hour or two.
Wassenaar with kids #3: Wassenaarse Slag
Wassenaar is located on the beach, so you can also go to the beach with the family during the summer months. The Wassenaarseslag is a few minutes’ drive from Duinrell amusement park and we visited this beach by bicycle from the amusement park’s campsite.
At the Wassenaarseselag you can have a great day at the beach. All facilities are available for a day at the beach. So you can rent beds, it is a spacious and clean beach, and you have a lifeguard there in the summer months to keep an eye on bathers. You also have several beach bars where you can get something to eat and drink.
When we visited the beach, we enjoyed afternoon drinks at Beachclub Bait. This beach club has a playground on both sides of its beach club, making this beach club also very suitable for families with kids. In addition, at the beach there are some stores, where you can buy some beach gear for the kids (if you don’t have them with you) such as a shovel and a bucket.
Wassenaar with kids: swimming pool the star pool
These are the three activities we did in Wassenaar, but there are two more great activities you can do in Wassenaar with kids. We briefly list them below!
#4 Zwembad het Sterrenbad: If the weather is not so good in Wassenaar for a day and you still want to do something with kids, pool het Sterrenbad is a great option. This tropical leisure pool has a small slide, a play area for some smaller kids and a whirlpool. The paddling pool and wellness pool have a temperature of 32 degrees, making it nice and relaxing.
#5 Wassenaar Petting Zoo: If you and your kids enjoy visiting a petting zoo, this farm is a fun option. The petting zoo is not super big, but it has various animals such as goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, sheep and ponies. In addition, it is also possible to have a bite to eat on the terrace outside. The menu is not super extensive, but you can have a sandwich or pancake here with your kids. For more information, check out the petting zoo’s website.
Wassenaar with kids: where to stay?
Wassenaar is a village and overnight accommodations are not extensive for families with kids. The only hotel you can book in Wassenaar with kids is the Fletcher Boutique Hotel Duinoord. Here they have family rooms for families with two kids and the hotel is located in nature reserve Meijendel.
If you are looking for more options, the city of Leiden is the place to be. Anyway, the city of Leiden is great fun to visit with kids.
