Vlissingen with kids: 8 top activities in a row!
What to do in Vlissingen with kids? We wondered the same thing when planning our vacation to Zeeland with our daughter. Vlissingen is one of the largest cities in Zeeland, and you can have a great time for a few days around this city. We have therefore included the city among fun cities in our blog Zeeland with kids. The city center is cozy and quite compact, so most attractions are within walking distance of each other. Following our visit to the city, we list the best activities in Vlissingen with kids for you!
Table of contents
Vlissingen with kids #1: Playground Lammerenburg
Playground Lammerenburg may be a surprise in this list, as this playground does not appear in most online lists about Vlissingen with kids. The playground is also outside the center in a residential area, but is a very nice playground. Also, it is a very cheap outing, as you pay 2 euros entrance fee for kids but and adults have free access to the playground. You can park your car in the neighborhood for free, giving you a few hours of fun in Vlissingen with kids for little money. The playground is for kids up to 12 years old.
This large playground has plenty of fun play equipment for kids of all ages. You have a separate section of the playground for the youngest kids. In addition, you have two trampolines, with a buzzer sounding each time the next kids are allowed on the trampoline, so that each kid gets his or her turn. We were at the playground ourselves towards the end of the afternoon and unfortunately the playground closed after just over half an hour. This was unfortunate, as we were sure our daughter could have easily played here for a few hours in this playground.
Just don’t expect parents to be able to sit here on a terrace and have an extensive lunch. The number of chairs and benches for parents to sit on is limited and food and drinks could not be purchased we thought. So bring your own rug and something to eat and drink. For more information on the playground’s hours of operation and play equipment, check out the playground’s website.
Vlissingen with kids #2: Hof van Poppendamme
Another fun playground near Vlissingen (15 minutes away by car) is the Hof van Poppendamme. We received this tip on our Instagram channel from one of our followers who lives near Vlissingen. When we arrived at the playground, we didn’t really know what to make of it at first. The playground is not super big and the playground equipment is limited. Nevertheless, our daughter had a very good time here with the other kids in the playground and we still stayed here for over two hours.
What we liked about the playground is that there is a very relaxed atmosphere in the garden. There are benches and chairs all over the garden, and parents everywhere are having drinks while the kids are playing. Inside the farmhouse, you also have an escaperoom that you can book with a group. There are also some animals on the grounds. For more information on opening hours, the menu and all the activities being organized , take a look at the website.
Vlissingen with kids #3: city center
The center of Vlissingen is definitely fun to stroll through. In fact, in the center on the waterfront near the Bellamypark you have plenty of nice terraces where you can get something to eat and drink. Sophie’s eye immediately fell on the table with only swings, so the choice of restaurant for lunch was quickly made ;). From here you can walk to the famous Michiel de Ruiter statue in a few minutes.
At the wharf you have plenty of steps, where kids enjoy climbing. From here you also have an excellent view of the water and the city. Of course, there are also plenty of stores in the center for shopping if your kids love that. Most of the sights are also in the center, so walking around here is fun and doesn’t take much time.
Vlissingen with kids #4: Beaches in the area
You can go to the beach in the city of Vlissingen with kids. In the southwest of the city, you have a number of beaches to go to. Just keep in mind that these beaches can be quite crowded in the summer. From the center you can walk to these beaches in about 15 minutes.
Still, there are better beaches around Vlissingen as far as we are concerned. For example, we are fans of the beaches of Dishoek and Zoutelande. For example, from Vlissingen you can drive to Dishoek beach in less than ten minutes. In Dishoek you have a spacious parking lot, where you can park your car for free. The beaches are clean and spacious and the crowds at these beaches are not very bad. The beaches are also quite long, so you can actually always find a spot.
The beaches of Zoutelande (the beaches of Dishoek merge into those of Zoutelande) are also very nice. You drive from Vlissingen to the beaches of Zoutelande in about 15 minutes. However, it is a lot harder to park your car for free here. Many kids can be seen with shovels, scoops and buckets. There are also shells everywhere, so kids can have a great time on the beach for a whole day. In that regard, then, Vlissingen is a great base from which to explore these beaches.
Vlissingen with kids: other activities
In addition to the above four activities, there are more things to do in the Vlissingen area with kids. We briefly name them for you below.
#5 Arsenal: You’ll find a sea aquarium here and kids can go on a pirate adventure. For example, you can see different tropical fish here and kids can pet stingrays. There are also other attractions such as the ship simulator and the pirate den. You can also climb the 45-meter Arsenal Tower here for a great view of the surrounding area!
#6: Reptile Zoo Iguana: This zoo is located right in the center and you can admire all kinds of reptiles here. The zoo’s interior is a bit dusty, but the snakes, lizards and tarantulas are in good shape! If your kids are interested in animals, then this is definitely a fun option during your city break to Vlissingen with kids.
#7: Middelburg: we found Middelburg a very nice city with nice terraces and nice stores. Middelburg is almost adjacent to Vlissingen and by car you can get there in a few minutes. In addition, you can take a tour boat to admire the city from the water. For a great view of the city you can climb the Lange Jan tower and for the littlest kids you have amusement park Mini Mundi where you can go. Also read our blog Middelburg with kids for all the activities in this city!
#8: Bambinie play palace: this is a fun indoor playground and an option when the weather is bad in Vlissingen. The indoor playground was built in an old swimming pool, and you can still see it clearly from the tiles on the floor. In the summer months, there is also outdoor entertainment, such as a bouncy castle.

Belgian Pilot’s Society
The first time we visited Vlissingen with our daughter we slept at hotel de Belgische Loodsensociëtie. The hotel is right in the center and it overlooks the sea. We had booked the very spacious superior family room here. We could park the car in front of the door for a small fee, we had all the space in our large room and in the morning we had a delicious breakfast. City & Beach Hotel Elisabeth
The second time we visited Vlissingen with our daughter we slept at the Stad & Strandhotel Elisabeth.
