DIsney Parks Orlando with kids: airfare

You can fly from the Netherlands directly to the Disney Parks Orlando with kids. In about ten hours you fly to Orlando. Of course, you have several airlines that fly here.

For a list of all airfare to Orlando, take a look here.

In addition to airfare, it is also important to apply for the proper travel authorization. Every traveler, including kids, must have a valid passport and an American visa or ESTA. Most Dutch travelers can use an ESTA. You can easily apply for these online.

DIsney Parks Orlando with kids: rental car

We visited Orlando’s six different Disney Parks for eleven days and we rented a car at the Orlando airport through Sunny Cars for this purpose. We always find the rental cars from Sunny Cars to be absolutely top notch, as the rental price includes a complete insurance package, so you really don’t have to worry about your rental car at all.

For a list of all Sunny Cars rental cars, take a look here.

What are all of Disney’s theme parks?

The Walt Disney Resort consists of four theme parks and two water parks.

Amusement Parks:

  • Magic Kingdom
. This is Disney’s main park and, of course, its most popular park. The park is known for its big pink castle and also has most of the attractions. This park is also home to the famous Disney Parade. The park is divided into six different areas (Mainstreet, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Liberty Square and Tommorrowland).

  • Epcot
. This amusement park is all about learning. Technology, science and humanity are the focus of this park. It has two themed areas: Future World and World Showcase. Future World has most of the attractions here and World Showcase is more like a boulevard, where different countries have their own sections.

  • Hollywood Studios
. Hollywood Studios is mostly devoted to theater and performances. The theme park has six different themed areas (Echo Lake, Grand Avenue, Toy Story Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Sunset Boulevard and Animation Courtyard.

  • Animal Kingdom
. This amusement park is a zoo with a lot of attractions. Beforehand, we expected to visit this park, just for one day, but we really liked this park. The downside of this park is that there are not that many attractions, so it does get crowded quickly at these attractions. The park has five different themed areas (Dinoland USA, Africa, Asia, Rafiki’s Planet watch and Pandora, The World of Avatar).

The water parks are a great (rest) day between visiting the theme parks. We spent an entire day at both pools.

Water parks:

  • Blizzard Beach
. This water park is partly dedicated to winter sports. You have a chairlift there that takes you towards the big slides and everything seems to be covered in snow. The most famous slide is Summit Plummit, where you can reach speeds as high as 100 km per hour.

  • Typhoon Lagoon
. This water park is known for its large wave pool, which presents a mega-wave every few minutes. Around it is a lazy river and several spectacular slides.

What tickets can you all buy for disney orlando theme parks?

Different websites offer different tickets to Disney’s theme parks. We ended up buying our tickets on the website of
, as this organization was the cheapest and most reliable.

Base ticket

You have these tickets for 1 day up to 10 days. This ticket only allows you to visit 1 amusement park per day and does not include admission to the water parks.

Basic ticket with water parks

Same conditions as the basic ticket and you get access to the water parks for the same number of days you are allowed to visit the theme parks. So if you have a ticket for three days of amusement park, you may also go to a water park for three days afterwards or in between.

Park Hopper Ticket

Basically the same ticket as the basic ticket, only now you are allowed to change parks on one day. Again, you have tickets up to 10 days.

Park Hopper with Plus option

This ticket gives you access to the four theme parks plus the two water parks and allows you to change parks in one day.

The price between a ticket for three days of amusement park or ten days of amusement park makes almost no difference, so we ended up going for the Park Hopper with Plus option for ten days. You can then spend ten days in the theme parks and the same number of days to the plus options. Included in that plus option are the two swimming parks and some sports facilities (click
for the exact program).

Whether you really need the park hopper option is something you have to weigh for yourself. You can easily spend a day at any amusement park. Two days we switched parks. We then started at Hollywood Studios with our favorite attraction Tower of Terror and then moved on to another theme park.

So why is it best to buy your amusement park tickets over the Internet?

  • The entrance tickets are cheaper. This is because this organization buys tickets in bulk.
  • Your entrance tickets will be shipped free of charge to the Netherlands. Should the tickets get lost in the mail, they will be cancelled and UnderCoverTourist will make sure you still get the tickets on time. If you prefer to pick up the tickets for free in Orlando that is also possible. We did this because we were traveling around the world and otherwise carried the tickets in our bags for a very long time.
  • Amusement park tickets do not expire. Walt Disney World tickets do not expire as long as they are not activated.
  • No need to queue at the entrance. This can save quite a bit of time, as the theme parks can be quite crowded.

We ended up paying 1367 euros for a ten-day Park hopper plus ticket for two adults and a kid (four years old). We spent a total of 11 days, so paid about 125 euros per day with three people.

Which attractions should you definitely visit and how many days should you visit each park?

Of course, the list below is our opinion as a family and may be different for everyone. So you may absolutely disagree with our opinion and that’s not a bad thing at all.

Magic Kingdom:

We as a family love rides and in Magic Kingdom we really liked the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splashmountain and the Barnstormer. The last attraction may be striking, but there is generally a much shorter queue at this attraction as, say, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and the roller coasters are similar to each other.

In addition, you have some shows like Monsters Inc Laugh Floor and Mickeys PhilharMagic that you should definitely see once and then you won’t have to go here again.

For small kids, there are also a number of (carnival) attractions such as Dumbo The Flying Elephant, Mad Tea Party, Astro Orbiter and The Magic Carpet of Alladin, where there is often a shorter line and an excellent ride. Not spectacular, but just fun. The same goes for riding in a little car at Tommorrowland Speedland.

When it rains, there are plenty of indoor alternatives. The attraction It’s a Small World is a classic and here the queue is often short, due to the large groups that can get in a boat. In addition, it is fun to check out the various indoor rides featuring the various Disney characters.

Winnie the Pooh and Ariel were the ones we liked best. Peter Pan is always very busy, but we found it a bit overrated compared to the average queue. In addition, the Haunted Mansion haunted house is a winner (perhaps a bit scary for small kids). The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is also highly recommended.

The attractions we liked least were the Enchanted Tiki Room (very long and boring sit), Liberty Square Riverboat (also a boring boat ride) and Space Mountain (in Paris this attraction is so many times more spectacular).

You see there are plenty of fun attractions in this amusement park. Set aside at least two days for this park and if you also want to take pictures with all kinds of Disney characters and see the parade, a third day is not a luxury.

Tip: If you never want to stand in line for more than 20 minutes for an attraction read our travel blog about it.

Epcot we found a little disappointing. There are only a few attractions that we found really worthwhile. Still, there really are some attractions here that are a lot of fun. For example, the Testtrack attraction is really tremendously cool. You drive around a track in a test car and make all kinds of weird moves with the car. In addition, Soarin is also beautifully made and looks like you are flying through a landscape. But then it stops as far as we are concerned in terms of highlights.

In addition, in the Future World section it is fine to take a ride in the attractions Journey Into Imagination with Figment, The Seas with Nemo and Friends and go to the performance of Turtle Talk with Crush.

Fun attractions include Frozen and Gran Fiesta Three Cabballeros in the World Showcase section, but those are also the only attractions in this section.

The most boring attraction in this park is Living With the Land, where you sit in a cart for 17 minutes and see virtually nothing. Spaceship Earth is also a rather long ride in a trolley, passing all sorts of innovations. Here we didn’t find much to like either. Mission Space we find an attraction that you get nauseous very quickly, since you are in a simulator. We didn’t find this very special either.

All of the park’s attractions can easily be visited in a day, which is what we did. Of course, it is also possible here to take pictures with Disney Characters and pass by the various country booths in World Showcase, but even this can all be done well in a day.

Hollywood Studios:

Known for its shows, this amusement park also has some top attractions. As a family, for example, we found The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction to be perhaps the most enjoyable of the four theme parks. You go into a kind of haunted house and sit in an elevator and you keep falling down whole sections.

We started at this attraction on three mornings, because here it is not difficult to be the first one to arrive at this attraction that day, so you do not have to stand in line because of this. We then moved on to the indoor roller coaster Aerosmith, where early in the morning you didn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes in the Singel Rider queue either.

In addition, Toy Storyland is also tremendously well attended here and there are often long lines at the three attractions Alien Swirling Saucers, Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania. Slinky Dog Dash is a fun roller coaster and definitely worth a visit. Alien Swirling Saucers is really a roller coaster ride and we found quite little to like. Especially when you often see the queues here. Shooting in a cart at Toy Story Mania is fun to do and a fastpass for this often becomes available during the day.

The Indiana Jones show is spectacular and fun to see and for the little kids, the Disney Junior Dance Party is fun because it is a kind of mini disco with the Disney Figures at the end of the show. The shows of Belle and the Beast, Frozen and the Little Mermaid are also worth visiting. Lastly, the 3d cinema movie of the Muppets is nice to see.

One advantage of this park is that most of the shows have set times and many visitors can get in at the same time. As a result, wait times at most shows are minimal.

Animal Kingdom:

We found this amusement park to be the surprise of the four amusement parks. Along with our four-year-old daughter, we found Dinosaur to be a very fun attraction. In addition, the white-water boats of the Kali River are also always tremendous fun with the family. You do get very wet here, so a poncho is recommended here if you don’t want to come out of the attraction completely soaked.

In addition, the coolest attraction of all four parks and also the busiest attraction is Avatar Flight of Space. In this indoor attraction, you sit on a kind of motorcycle and wear 3d glasses. It really makes you feel like you’re on the back of a dragon. This is really a very special attraction. Unfortunately, you have to be at least 1 meter 10 for this attraction, so we couldn’t go in here with our daughter. The queue here is often three hours, yet I (Joep) managed to visit this attraction three times in an hour. Read all about this in the travel blog never queue for more than 20 minutes.

The attractions of Expedition Everest (big roller coaster) and Na’vi (kind of like dream escape from the Efteling) are also great fun to visit. In addition, you can go on a jeep safari at Kilimanjaro Safari and this is also fun to do at least once.

You also have the two carnival rides TriceraTop spin and Primeval Whirl, where the wait time is generally not long, which are also fun to visit with small kids.

With this, we have covered all the attractions and actually have no disappointing attractions in this amusement park. However, there are two more shows you should definitely check out. The Lion King Show is wonderful and the It’s Tough to be a Bug show is also great fun to watch. Since both work with set hours, you often only have to wait in line here for a short time.

Here again, you can take pictures with all kinds of Disney characters and there are also many different animals to see. So you can easily entertain yourself for one to two days in this park. We ended up going here for three days because we liked the park so much.

What are the average wait times for the various attractions?

We have neatly put these in an overview by theme park and you can find them in the travel blog average wait times Disney parks Orlando .

Is a Memory Maker from Disney convenient to order?

All of Disney’s theme parks have many photographers who can capture you and your family in photographs. You pay about $170 for this. The photographer scans your Disney wristband and the photos land directly in the Disney App. The advantage is that it is easier to be in a photo with the whole family. In addition, the photographers already have the right settings on the camera right away, so the photos are naturally of fine quality.

We still thought it was quite a lot of money in the end, so we brought our own camera to the park. The photographers also often take a picture of your family and, for example, the Disney character in question with your camera. Some promotions with tickets include a free Memory Maker from Disney.

Where should you stay at Disney Orlando with kids?

It kind of depends on what you want. Are you a total Disney fan and in addition to visiting the parks, would you like to stay at a
Disney Hotel
sleep, then of course you should. Do realize that you are mainly in the theme parks and usually arrive at your hotel at the end of the day exhausted and can go to sleep. Of course, the prices of the Disney hotels are very high, though.

Still, it has some advantages:

  • You have transportation from your hotel to the parks and this saves costs in terms of car rental and parking fees
  • You can take advantage of the Magic Hours and these are hours in the morning and evening when only hotel guests are in the park. This makes it a lot quieter.
  • You can request the various Fastpasses 60 days in advance. This benefit is negligible if you read this travel blog of ours.

We ourselves slept at the hotel
Grande Villas Resort by Diamonds Resorts
with several pools outside the park for less than 70 euros a night. Travel times by rental car to the various parks were minimal (Magic Kingdom 15 minutes, Epcot 11 minutes, Hollywood Studios 14 minutes, Animal Kingdom 14 minutes, Blizzard Beach 13 minutes and Typhoon Lagoon 9 minutes). We enjoyed this relatively inexpensive hotel very much and definitely recommend it. In fact, it also contained a kitchen, which allowed us to eat a healthy meal with our daughter in the evening.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 11 days in the six different Disney parks Orlando and hope this travel blog has made you a little wiser. Also read our other travel blogs about Florida that we have written:
