Steinerbos with kids: a review of this adventure park!

During our short vacation in Valkenburg last summer vacation, we visited several nice places around this tourist village. One of these places was the relatively unknown Steinerbos. We had never heard of it either, yet this is a really fun park for kids and there is plenty to do! As a result of our visit to the Steinerbos, we are writing this review of the park so you can get an idea of what you can do here!

Steinerbos with kids: general information!

The Steinerbos is located in the town of Stein. We arrive at the park around noon and park the car in the large parking lot in front of the park. Parking is free here! We found the entrance fee to the park not so bad with all the things you can do here with your kids. We didn’t get there until noon, but we could have had a great time here for a whole day. Especially if the weather is good and you can also use the pool.

You buy a day ticket at the Steinerbos, which also allows you to leave the park temporarily to go somewhere for lunch, for example, and come back later. The park also has lockers where you can put your things (paid for).

Steinerbos with kids: the swimming pool

As we mentioned earlier in this blog, the Steinerbos has all kinds of things to do and the grounds are quite large. When we were there it was quite warm and you could swim in the pool just fine. So this was the first part of the park we visited. Much of the pool is shallow and allows kids to stand. There is also a large slide, which Sophie went down quite a few times. When we were there, it was pretty quiet here.

Besides the outdoor pool, they also have a paddling pool and around the pool is a sunbathing area only this is outside the fence of the pool. This makes it less easy to keep an eye on your kids from your towel. In addition to the pool, there is also a giant bouncy castle for the kids. We swam here for about an hour because we also wanted to explore the rest of the park and it was already in the afternoon. but we imagine your kids will be fine swimming here for a whole morning or afternoon.

Steinerbos with kids: The playground

As we explore the rest of the park we see that there is a catering facility near the pool and that this also includes a fairly large indoor playground. Fine, of course, when the weather is a little cooler and you occasionally need to take shelter from the rain. Since the weather is nice and we prefer to be outside then, our daughter did not play here otherwise.

As we continue to explore the grounds outside, we notice how much playground equipment there is. There are small and large playgrounds everywhere. There is a playground with a whole climbing course for the kids, we come across a go-kart track, a giant slide, electric cars (here we had to pay money) and a nature playground.

There is also a pond where you can row boats, a very nice barefoot trail and a petting zoo. There is also a little train running throughout the park that kids can ride on. In hindsight, we could have spent a whole day for this, as we did all the play equipment pretty quickly now, while we could have stayed a lot longer with most of the equipment.

Steinerbos with kids: food and drink!

It is possible to have something to eat and drink in the Steinerbos. In several places they have catering outlets in the park. Sandwiches, fries, snacks, candy and ice cream are sold here. As we mentioned earlier, you can also temporarily leave the forest to go somewhere to eat. We ate at Brasserie Steinerbos, which is just outside the park. You will get a stamp and can come back later. From the park, it is a short walk to the brasserie.

At this brasserie you could eat fine food and you can eat inside or outside. When we were there, the entire terrace outside was already occupied, so we ate inside. As far as we are concerned, this brasserie does come highly recommended if you want to have a more elaborate lunch. By the way, it is also possible to bring your own food and drinks and eat them somewhere on one of the picnic benches in the Steinerbos.

Steinerbos with kids: conclusion!

In retrospect, we did underestimate the size of the park a bit. We did not expect so much to do and therefore could have easily spent a few more hours in the park. Especially in good weather, you can have a great time here with your kids for a whole day. In our opinion, definitely a fun activity if you visit the province of Limburg once with your family. For all information on opening hours, entrance fees and playground equipment, check out the park’s website.
