Saint Lucia with kids is fun! Here we mean the island of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean and not in Africa. This tropical island has some great sights to keep you entertained for at least two days. We spent two days visiting this beautiful island known for its Piton mountains and visited the island’s main attractions. In this blog, we list the best attractions of island Saint Lucia for families with kids.
#1 Sugar Beach
Sugar Beach is the most famous beach on the island of Saint Lucia. Located between the two Piton mountains, this beach is very popular among tourists. There is a resort on this beach and to get to the beach you have to drive your car into the complex of this resort. You will come to a barrier and there you can indicate that you are coming for the beach.
You then have to drive to a parking lot, where you still have to walk a bit toward the beach. This is down about 10 minutes. By the way, we rode back up the mountain with one of the resort cars that do drive all the way to the beach. The beach is beautifully situated among the mountains and is very photogenic. The beds that are on the beach belong to the resort, but you can perfectly well lay down your towel on the beach.
In the water there are all kinds of plates on which you can lie in the sea. In addition, what is also a must on this beach is that you can snorkel very well here. If you face the sea you will find super good snorkeling on the far left side of the sea. Here you can see quite a bit of coral and also a lot of different fish. You can spend an entire day here having fun on the beach. For food and drinks, you can visit the resort.
#2 Tet Paul Nature Trail
A very cool viewpoint over the Piton Mountains is at the Tet Paul Nature Trail. This climb is really super simple and very doable even with small kids. We paid $10 admission per person for us as adults and our daughter had free admission. You then get a guide who tells you a little about the view and nature. Kids can also be given a stick to walk up the mountain with when it has rained a lot and the terrain is slippery.
This hike is not super long and you walk all the way up the mountain in 15 minutes. Here you have a really beautiful view (if the weather is clear) of the two Piton mountains. On top of the mountain is also a small store where you can buy a drink. When we hiked this trail it was quite cloudy and we really waited at the top for a while until the clouds around the mountains had partially disappeared. So sometimes you may not see the mountains and 5 minutes later they suddenly appear.
In total, we spent about 1 hour with this children’s activity. Of course, you can also combine this trail well with a visit to Sugar Beach, as these two Saint Lucia landmarks are located near each other. Anyway, it is recommended to rent a car when you are on the island. Although the roads were not in good condition, we found the driving to the various sights quite manageable.
#3 Anse Chastanet Beach
Another beautiful beach is Anse Chastanet Beach. This beach is also located in the southwestern part of the island near Sugar Beach. We unfortunately did not visit this beach because we were unsure about the last part of the way to this beach. That road is only drivable if you have a 4w drive rental car. We also read online that rental cars that did not have this had very difficulty getting up the road and even had to be towed away by local people.
Another option is to take a boat to this beach via Soufrière Beach. When we were hesitating whether to drive by car to Anse Chastanet Beach, we were approached at the beginning of the road by someone who had a boat and could drop us off there. Since we drove to this beach towards the end of the afternoon, we decided not to do this again, but it could certainly be an option.
We ended up having some dinner at a restaurant near Soufrière Beach. Here, by the way, you could eat fine food and also have a nice view from the restaurant over the bay. Kids can also swim in the sea here.
Other children’s activities on island of Saint Lucia
Of course, there is much more to do on island Saint Lucia with kids and we did not do everything. We list below several other children’s activities you can do on the island of Saint Lucia.
#4 Waterfalls: So you can hike to several waterfalls on the island of Saint Lucia with kids. One of these waterfalls is the Diamond Waterfall located near the town of Soufrière. Located near the Soufrière botanical garden, this waterfall is very colorful due to the minerals in the water. Other waterfalls you can visit on the island are the La Tille Waterfall, Toraille Waterfall and the Piton Waterfalls.
#5 Treetop Canopy Adventure: You can also go ziplining with kids in Saint Lucia. Treetop Canpy Adventures has 12 different ziplines and also 5 rope bridges that are all in the jungle. If you are looking for an active children’s activity on the island then this is definitely a fun option! By the way, you cannot do this activity if you visit the island on a cruise ship.
Family-friendly restaurant Saint Lucia
A very cool restaurant to grab a bite to eat is at the Green Fig resort. At this resort there is a restaurant where you can also grab a bite to eat when you are not staying at the resort. We had breakfast here in the morning and besides having a great breakfast here, the view from the restaurant is wonderful. Definitely recommended to go there at least for a drink.
Family-friendly hotel Saint Lucia
You have plenty of family-friendly hotels on the island of Saint Lucia where you can stay. We slept two nights in an apartment near the capital, but that was mainly because we were only on the island for such a short time. Still, there are certainly better options than where we ourselves have slept. We give some options that are all super well reviewed in different price ranges.
