Recently, we have visited almost all of them and, based on that, compiled a top 10 for our province of Brabant. We have to say that we didn’t know that so many places in Brabant have a fun forest specifically for kids to play in. The play forests are listed in no particular order!

play forests in Brabant with kids #1 play forest herperduin

If we have to pick a number 1 in terms of play forests in Brabant with kids, we still choose the play forest Herperduin. At the play forest itself are several other fun activities, making this a great place to spend half a day with the family.

At the play forest there is a huge and high playground equipment, where our daughter had a good time. Because the playground equipment is so high, you can climb on it from many sides, and on each side you can do it in a different way. In addition, in the middle of the playground is a huge slide that goes pretty fast. Sophie kept going down the slide on her coat and loved that she was going down the slide at a tremendous speed.

In addition, the playground is located around a small water where kids can also play. A barefoot trail is also available at the play forest. Our daughter also found beautiful painted stones in the forest from the Facebook group Kei Tof (you see them popping up in more and more places) and had immediately found a nice extra activity in the forest (stone searching).

Next to this play forest, it is possible to hike to a free observation tower. This hike is quite short and you have a nice view of the surrounding area. In addition, there is plenty of beach sand around the tower, there is another lake you can go to, and there is another course you can walk and where kids can do exercises. At the entrance to the play forest, you can have a great bite to eat and drink at pancake restaurant Pan&Zo or at restaurant the Kriekeput. For all the information, read our travel blog play forest Herperduin with kids.

play forests in Brabant with kids #2 play forest Goirle

Goirle is a village near Tilburg and has one of the most fun play forests in Brabant with kids. We live right near it and must honestly confess that we did not know about the existence of the forest. The forest is near Natuurpoort de Roovertsche Leij and there are quite a lot of playground equipment in a small area. At the forest sits the organization Rocks n Rivers who have an entire climbing forest next to the play forest, where groups are paid to climb among the trees.

You can also purchase a scavenger hunt through the play forest here. You then get a backpack with some gear in it such as binoculars, compass and some assignments and can then walk a route through the forest. Afterwards, kids can then turn in the assignments and roast marshmallows on a fire of their own making. This is an option to do, but of course you can also just visit the play forest without all these tasks. When we were there, we did, since we were not aware of the possibility.

There are a total of 14 obstacles during the scavenger hunt in the forest, and it mainly comes down to kids doing a lot of climbing and scrambling in the forest. It is also possible to use the low climbing apparatus at the climbing forest. If you want to go really high up into the trees, then of course you have to pay for this.

At the play forest there is also a terrace where you can have something to eat and drink. We were there a total of about three hours, but had we done the scavenger hunt and also visited the climbing forest, we could have easily spent a day here. If you want more information about this forest read our extensive blog play forest Goirle with kids.

play forests in Brabant with kids #3 play forest Mastbos in Breda

In the Mastbos in Breda, you have two options for kids to play in the woods. You have a play forest there and you have a gnome trail there. You can get a gnome package at Boschwachter restaurant in ‘t Mastbos, where your kids can take the walk with a gnome hat on. During this walk, kids can complete assignments at the various gnome poles. This walk takes about 1.5 hours and kids can have a drink and a pancake at the restaurant afterwards. This walk is for kids ages four through seven.

Within walking distance of this restaurant, you can also walk to the play forest in Breda. In play forest the Boeverijen, you have several climbing devices made with ropes attached to the trees. There is also a cable car here for the kids. If you walk a bit further into the forest, you also have a water playground.

In this water playground, they have also set up a course on the water and there is a possibility that your kids will get wet here. When we were there, a number of kids were waist-deep in water. So bring an extra set of clothes just to be sure. At this water playground, you also have some picnic benches where you can eat and drink something.

When we were there, there was also an ice cream vendor selling ice cream here, but it is probably only there on hot days. We still ended up spending over three hours in this forest, and if you also walk the gnome trail with your kids, you’re in for half a day here. The combination of these two activities ensures that the Boeverijen play forest definitely belongs in the top 10 most fun play forests in Brabant with kids. play forests in Brabant with kids #4 play forest Maashorst Uden

The play forest in Uden is not super big and it is a bit of a combination of a playground and a play forest, but we think it definitely belongs in the list of most fun play forests in Brabant with kids. The most distinctive element of this play forest is the large playground equipment in the shape of a sleeping giant. This playground equipment is quite high and kids really enjoy climbing up through the giant’s face (despite the fact that it is not actually meant to be and is also quite difficult).

Around this playground there are several benches and when we were there they were all full of families, whose kids were playing. Near this playground is also a small water where kids can play. Furthermore, you have two other pieces of playground equipment here. For example, there is a sort of course with ropes and at the back of the play forest there is also a slide.

In the forest itself, as with most play forests, several huts were built with branches and some trees were worked into play objects. We combined this play forest with our visit to the play forest in Herpen and we spent a total of two hours here. For a detailed report read the blog play forest Uden with kids.

play forests in Brabant with kids #5 speelbos Gilze

We live not so far from Gilze and yet we had never heard of this play forest. While you can spend quite a few hours here in nature. The Gilze play forest is located near the van der Valk Hotel Gilze-Tilburg in Gilze. You can park in the hotel parking lot, but the play forest itself has a parking lot, which is actually right in front of the entrance to the play forest.

The play forest belongs to a giantess who left her footprint here in some places. In the forest, several climbing apparatus are made with trees and with rope, and kids can also make music with wooden objects. In addition, you will find a natural maze for the kids in this play forest. On the play forest’ s website, you can also download a photo quest so your kids can have a scavenger hunt through the forest.

Afterwards, you can have something to eat and drink on the terrace of the van der Valk Hotel Gilze-Tilburg. Here there is also a small playground near the terrace. Another thing you can do here is play a game of foot golf. We’ve done this several times with adults here and it’s also a lot of fun to do with kids (provided they like soccer, of course). play forests in Brabant with kids #6 play forest Molenheide in Mierlo

The play forest in Mierlo, is definitely in our top 3 fun play forests in Brabant with kids. They’ve done a nice job in this Brabant village with even an app and several pieces of playground equipment, so you and your kids can have a good few hours of fun in the woods here. At the forest, there are a number of things you can do. You have a play forest, a trail and the cotton trail which you can walk with your kids.

For this cotton trail, they created an app for your phone that allows you to look for different figures along this route. These figurines are quite difficult to hide and we completely checked the route twice and eventually found 14 of the 15 figurines. You can scan the pictures you have found, so you can see exactly how many more pictures you need to find. It also includes some videos, but we didn’t find them super interesting for kids.

From the cottonwood trail, it is a short walk toward the play forest. The play forest consists mainly of some playground equipment such as swings, a slide and a cable car. Also located here is a trim course, where kids can also have a great time at the different parts of the course. We ended up spending three hours here in this forest. For a detailed report read our blog about Molenheide play forest with kids.

play forests in Brabant with kids #7: play forest zandbos in deurne

The play forest in Deurne is not super large, but there is enough entertainment to go here for a few hours on your day off. From the entrance to the play forest, after a small walk with several smaller climbing apparatuses, you walk through to a somewhat larger area, where there is much to do for kids.

In fact, at the back of the play forest the Sand Forest there are a number of pieces of playground equipment, including a cable car, a large rope swing and a climbing apparatus. Consequently, this is where you will find most families. In fact, there are also a number of picnic tables here for you to sit at. There is also a small water here, where kids can play around. The map also showed a whole unit with a water pump, but we could not find it, and when we asked other families, they did not know if it was there or not either.

There is also a natural maze in the play forest and a kind of telephone where you can communicate with each other over a certain distance. There are also some beautiful wooden creations in the forest of figures cut from the trees. We combined a visit to the play forest in Deurne with a visit to the play forest in Mierlo, so we spent almost a whole day on the road.

play forests in Brabant with kids #8 play forest de Kemmer in oirschot

Speelbos de Kemmer is a great forest to entertain yourself for an hour or two, but is not in our top five fun play forests in Brabant with kids. You can easily park your car at the Laco sports center in Oirschot and from there it is a short walk via the tennis court to the play forest.

In the climbing forest you can have a scavenger hunt and there are some animals made of wood that you have to find in the forest. These animals they carved beautifully out of the wood. There is also a trim trail through the climbing forest, with various exercises and devices that are also fun for kids to climb. However, much of the climbing forest does lie along the highway and you can hear the cars whizzing by, making you feel less like you are completely out in nature.

The play forest is next to a campground, and at this campground there is also an excellent playground with several pieces of playground equipment and several trampolines. You can walk right into the grounds of this campground.

The play forest ‘t Slingerpedje in Bladel is, as far as we are concerned, number 1 in terms of most beautiful wooden figures in our list of play forests in Brabant with kids. Beautiful figures can be found here that feel almost fairytale-like. The play forest here is not super big, but it has some fun play equipment.

For example, the climbing forest has a water pump which ends in different tree trunks, there is a whole course with rope between different trees and you have a nice swing on a tree, on which kids can be pushed pretty high into the air.

You can combine a visit to this play forest with a visit to play farm the Hooiberg in Bladel. Here they have both an indoor and outdoor playground and you can also grab a bite to eat and drink with the family. For more information about this play farm, check out the farm’s website. The last forest we want to mention in our list of fun play forests in Brabant with kids is the play forest in Oisterwijk. Oisterwijk is anyway a very nice destination in the province of North Brabant to go to with families. They have in the area many restaurants with terraces and fun playgrounds and also there is a beautiful nature reserve the Oisterwijk woods and fens. We also mentioned this nature reserve in our blog about the best walks in North Brabant with kids.

At nature gate Groot Speijck you have a visitor center located and behind the visitor center you will find the play nature area of the Oerrr foundation. Here kids can use a pump to pump water from the stream, walk barefoot along a path, build dams, take a leaf bath and make huts.

At the visitor center you can have a great bite to eat and there is also a playground in front of this. In addition, you can rent family bikes near this play forest and there are even more opportunities to play here. For a detailed report read our travel blog Oisterwijkse bossen en vennen with kids.

play forests in Brabant with kids #11 play forest docus de das

The last play forest in the list of best play forests in Brabant with kids is play forest Docus de Das. This play forest is near the town of Schaijk and is located on the Udensedreef. We can park the car in a spacious parking lot near restaurant the Forest Lodge, from where it is another minute’s walk to the beginning of the trail. The weather is lovely and the entire terrace of the restaurant is full of people enjoying the sunshine and snacks.

We start with the 1.5-kilometer walk and the idea is to find the different animals (Docus the Badger’s friends) hidden in the forest. During the route you will come across several pieces of playground equipment and you can also make use of the free leaflet you can download in advance, which also includes some questions for the kids during the route.

At the end of the hike, you come to a lake, which also has several pieces of playground equipment around it. Just keep in mind that kids may get wet here, so an extra set of clean clothes is not an unnecessary luxury. We enjoyed ourselves here for an hour or two (definitely quite a while at the lake) and had drinks at the restaurant afterwards. As far as we are concerned, definitely recommended to go with kids.
