You have so many fun amusement parks to visit in the Netherlands, so we would like to share with you our list of the best amusement parks in the Netherlands. And then we even had to make choices about which theme parks to include in our list. If you compare this to other countries, for such a small country, we really have an enormous number of amusement parks in our country. In recent years we have therefore visited many amusement parks with our daughter and here we list the best amusement parks in the Netherlands.
Table of contents
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #1: Efteling
We did not put the amusement parks in an order of that the number 1 in this list is the most fun, but the Efteling really remains the number 1 amusement park in the Netherlands. It also has by far the most visitors on an annual basis and more than five million visitors visit the amusement park annually.
We are fortunate to live near the amusement park and our daughter has a season ticket along with grandparents. As a result, she has visited the park dozens of times, yet the park never gets boring. The park has dozens of attractions for both young and older kids, and if you’re visiting the Efteling for the first time, you’ll surely need two days to see everything properly.
Our favorite attractions change with our daughter’s age. Our daughter used to love the Fairytale Forest and the Carnival Festival, and these days the Python and George and the Dragon are more popular. There are enough accommodations around the amusement park to make a whole weekend out of it. We wrote about this amusement park the extensive blog the Efteling with kids, in which we give all the information you need to visit this park.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #2: Slagharen
Amusement park Slagharen in the east of the country, has more than thirty different attractions and in this amusement park you can easily spend a day having fun. In fact, if you also want to visit the water park and the climbing park, one day will not be enough. Again, there are plenty of lodging options near the park.
We bought tickets for this park through a ticket auction website, which allowed us to spend a day at this amusement park for very little money. The amusement park has more than 30 different attractions, with an emphasis on attractions for young kids. Yet you also have some fast-paced attractions, including several that can make you quite nauseous.
In addition to the various attractions, you also have several shows you can visit. All in all, we needed a full day for the attractions alone and would have liked to explore the water park as well. A good reason to visit the amusement park again in the future with our daughter. We wrote about the amusement park the blog Slagharen with kids.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #3: Duinrell
Amusement park Duinrell definitely belongs in the list of funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands and we have visited this amusement park several times. Located in Wassenaar, the amusement park is situated between the major cities of The Hague and Leiden. Also at Duinrell, you can combine a visit to the amusement park with a visit to the water park.
The amusement park has more than 40 rides and this includes a number of spectacular roller coasters, for which there is a minimum length restriction on some of them. In addition, you also have some attractions that you often see at the fair such as the bumper cars, the trunks, the Ferris wheel, the carousel, the merry-go-round and the little train.
We also went there once for an entire weekend and slept in the campground next to the park. That weekend we also visited the cool water park for a few hours. This water park has several spectacular slides and our daughter absolutely loved it. We wrote about this amusement park the blog Duinrell with kids.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #4: Hellendoorn
Adventure park Hellendoorn is also located in the eastern part of the country, and we combined this amusement park with amusement park Slagharen during a weekend getaway. Like actually all the other amusement parks in this list of funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands, you can have a great time in Hellendoorn for a whole day.
We also visited this amusement park with tickets from a promotion, getting the second ticket free. The amusement park focuses mainly on somewhat younger kids (up to about 10 years old) with their attractions. Our daughter was seven when we visited the amusement park and for her, basically everything was accessible in terms of attractions.
We visited the amusement park in the summer months on a hot day and we also took advantage of the water park located in the park. You pay a few extra euros for this water park, but we thought it was well worth it. Also in terms of crowds, this park was not too bad and we actually managed to do all the attractions in one day. We wrote the blog Avonturenpark Hellendoorn with kids about this amusement park.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #5: Drievliet
Drievliet amusement park is located in the city of The Hague and is definitely worth a visit if you are taking a city trip to The Hague with kids, for example. The city has a lot of family-friendly activities anyway and we already wrote about this city in the blog The Hague with kids. At this amusement park, there are few attractions that have a length restriction, so kids are soon allowed on all of them.
This family park focuses mainly on young children, and most attractions are fun for kids up to about 12 years old. The family park does not have a water park, but it does have a spray park where kids can cool off on hot days. Besides the many attractions, they also have a fun 5d cinema, which you can visit in the park.
Drievliet amusement park does open only during the summer months, so be sure to check the Drievliet website in advance to make sure the park is open on the day you want to visit.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #6: Toverland
The Toverland amusement park is located in Limburg in the town of Sevenum. Toverland actually consists of two sections. For example, in Toverland you have a whole indoor section that ensures that you can also visit this amusement park even if the weather is not so good for a day and you still want to go to an amusement park. That’s a big difference from most of the other theme parks on this list, though.
In Toverland you have several worlds to visit and the park has a number of spectacular attractions, which makes it attractive even for slightly older kids. We visited the amusement park several times already and entertained ourselves for a whole day every time.
In addition to the many playground equipment and attractions, kids can play in several water playgrounds during the summer months. During the winter months, Toverland also has special days around the Halloween party and then actors also walk through the park to scare the hell out of the kids. We liked that very much ourselves!
Our favorite rides in the park are the roller coasters Troy and the Toos-Express and the tree trunks that shoot in all directions and get you pretty wet. We wrote about this amusement park the blog Toverland with kids, in which we list all the information about the park.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #7: Julianatoren
Julianatoren is located in Apeldoorn and we think that this park also definitely belongs in the list of most fun amusement parks in the Netherlands. Amusement park Julianatoren is not a very big park and when we were there on a study day of our daughter, it was not very crowded either. This gave us ample time to visit all the attractions and do the nicer ones multiple times.
This amusement park also caters to slightly younger kids, and our daughter, who was 125 cm tall, was allowed in all the attractions (whether accompanied by one of us or not). Another thing we noticed in this amusement park was the staff in the amusement park. Most of the staff were retired and all were equally friendly.
Also in this amusement park you have a number of roller coasters and rides such as a carousel, a haunted house, electric boats, bumper cars, electric cars, electric horses and pedal cars over a track. We wrote about our experiences in this amusement park the blog amusement park Julianatoren with kids.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #8: Oud-Valkeveen
Amusement park Oud-Valkeveen may be a somewhat lesser known amusement park in this list of funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands, but we still felt that this amusement park definitely deserved a place in the list. This amusement park is located in Naarden and from Amsterdam you can get there in half an hour. You can mainly describe this amusement park as a big playground with several attractions as well.
Because the day we visited the park was not very busy, we were able to visit all the attractions in half a day. But because there are also several playgrounds at the park (including an indoor playground), we still spent a whole day here with our daughter.
For example, the amusement park has a children’s roller coaster, electric cars, electric chickens/rabbits, bumper cars, a small swing ship, a kind of carousel (sway), giant slide, merry-go-round and the famous tree trunks. We wrote about this amusement park the blog Oud-Valkeveen with kids, in which we report extensively on the park.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #9: DippieDoe
In the province of Brabant, besides amusement park the Efteling, there is another somewhat smaller amusement park called Dippiedoe. This may be the smallest amusement park in our list of funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands, but we have a great time here every time. We did have some doubts about this amusement park because you have several other amusement parks like Drouwenerzand, Tivoli and BillyBird that are definitely comparable to Dippiedoe.
DippieDoe is located in Best and has both an outdoor and indoor section. In the winter months, only the indoor section is open, which is mainly a large indoor playground, with a few small attractions, and in the summer months, the outdoor section is also open. In the outdoor area, you have several playgrounds as well as various attractions.
In total you have seven different attractions outside including the bumper cars a carousel and a roller coaster. It is also possible to play miniature golf at the amusement park. We wrote about this amusement park the blog DippieDoe with kids, in which we report extensively on this amusement park in Brabant.
Funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands #10: Walibi Holland
The only amusement park in this list of funniest amusement parks in the Netherlands that we have not yet visited ourselves, but that we really want to give a place in our top 10 is Walibi Netherlands. We did visit Walibi Belgium and found it to be a very nice amusement park with lots of different roller coasters.
Walibi Holland is the amusement park most suitable for young people/adolescents because of the large number of roller coasters the park has. The park also operates fastpasses at several attractions here, which does mean that the lines at some attractions can get quite long (provided you don’t purchase a pass).
The amusement park has more than 30 rides, but keep in mind that there is a minimum length restriction on most rides. This makes this amusement park a little less suitable for younger kids. Walibi Holland can be found in Biddinghuizen and from Amsterdam it is just under an hour’s drive to the amusement park.
