Miffy museum review: all the information at a glance!
In this Miffy Museum review, we talk about our visit to the museum and how we experienced it. In addition, we provide some general information about this family-friendly museum in Utrecht. We also included the museum in our blog Utrecht with kids, where we describe all of the city’s children’s activities. In this blog we will give you all the information you need to visit the Museum of Miffy in Utrecht.
Table of contents
Miffy museum accessibility
The Miffy Museum in Utrecht is easily accessible by both car and public transportation. We ourselves visited the museum by car and parked the car at Springweg parking garage. From there it was about a ten-minute walk to the museum.
There are other parking garages near the museum such as the Vaartsche Rijn and Lange Nieuwstraat parking garages. Walking distances to the museum are about the same as those from Springweg parking garage.
You can also take bus number 2 from Utrecht central station and then you can get off in front of the museum at the Central Museum stop. Also by train, you can take the train to Utrecht Vaartsche Rijn station and from there it is a ten-minute walk.
Miffy Museum Tickets
You can very easily order tickets through the Miffy Museum website. For kids ages 2 to 6, tickets are the most expensive. This is because the Miffy Museum is really aimed at this audience as well. For kids 7 and older, you pay a lower amount. That also goes to show that the museum is aimed primarily at kids ages 2 to 6.
With the museum card and the Friends Lottery VIP card, you have free admission to the museum. We ourselves had purchased this last card at the NEMO museum in Amsterdam, because we knew we were going to spend two weeks visiting a lot of museums with our daughter and thus we easily saved the money. So if you want to visit several museums, such a card can be advantageous.
Miffy Museum Discount
There are regular discount offers for the museum, with discounts sometimes as high as 50%. Therefore, make sure to always do a search in advance on the search term Miffy Museum Discount, as it can save a lot of money. Especially if you have several family members. We ourselves had free admission with our Friends Lottery card, so we did not look for this.
Review of the Miffy Museum
And then, of course, the museum itself. We visited the museum when our daughter was 5 years old, which was a perfect age to visit the museum. Of course, the entire museum is also dedicated to Miffy. The museum is primarily geared toward kids ages 2 to 6. You notice this as soon as you enter the museum. There are coat racks for kids, you have baby carriage storage, children’s toilets and at all the toilets there are options for changing kids.
The museum has several rooms, with different topics actually being covered each time. Thus, you have a section on the doctor where kids learn things about the human body, a section on the farm, where it is dominated by animals and the store of Betje piglet.
There are plenty of things to do in each room for young kids and our daughter had a great time. The most fun part of the museum is the traffic plaza, where kids can ride along a track with all kinds of bicycles. This is also where most kids linger the longest, because this is also where the play element is the biggest.
In total, we spent about two hours inside the museum, and that’s about the time it takes to visit it.
Food and drink Miffy Museum
You are not allowed to eat and drink in the museum itself, but you have a Miffy cafe where you can go for a snack and a drink. For example, it is possible to eat a sandwich or pancake here with kids. There are also some healthier options like, for example, a Miffy poké bowl you can order (which, by the way, also looks very funny with vegetables cut into Miffy figures).
Where to stay in Utrecht with kids?
The Miffy Museum in Utrecht is not the only fun museum you can visit in Utrecht with kids. So you also have the Railway Museum and the Speelklok museum that are definitely worth a visit. Therefore, you can also have a great weekend trip to Utrecht with the family.
Of course then you have to spend the night somewhere and we have now stayed in several hotels in Utrecht. We have listed all family-friendly hotels in Utrecht and based on hundreds of reviews from families with kids, we have listed the positives and negatives of each hotel. You can find these in our blog family-friendly hotel Utrecht.
We really liked the Miffy museum. Because it is geared entirely toward young kids, you can’t really compare it to a traditional museum either. Kids can learn a tremendous amount about a variety of topics through play, which is why we think the museum is a really super nice combination of play and learning.
We spent 2 hours there and that’s about the time you should allow for it (provided, of course, that you don’t also eat a snack in the café). For more information about the museum, check out the Miffy Museum website.
