Middelburg with kids: 7 fun activities to do with the family!
Visiting the city of Middelburg with kids is really a must if you are vacationing in the province of Zeeland. The city has a cozy center, where you can easily spend an afternoon. When we visited the capital of the province of Zeeland, we really felt afterwards that we would have liked to stay much longer and we will definitely come back again! Following our visit to this city, we list the best activities and attractions in Middelburg with kids for you!
Middelburg with kids #1: downtown Middelburg
The center of Middelburg is very nice to visit. You have in the center several squares with nice terraces, nice stores and beautiful monumental buildings.
In the central square in town in front of the beautiful historic City Hall, you also have a nice little attraction with water. You can sit on two chairs facing each other and look at each other through a hole, with water suddenly spouting unexpectedly.
Most of the sights we mention here are also in downtown Middelburg, so in that respect it is hard to skip downtown.
Middelburg with kids #2 Climb the Lange Jan tower
For a nice overview of Middelburg, it is fun to climb the Lange Jan Abbey Tower. Lange Jan stands between the New Church and the Choir Church. It is the third tallest tower in the Netherlands.
It is possible to climb the 90-meter tower, and once you have climbed 207 steps you will get a nice view of the city halfway up the tower. In clear weather, you can see quite far and see some of Zeeland’s islands.

Middelburg with kids #3 Park Toorenvliedt
Park Toorenvliedt is located just outside the center of Middelburg and you can reach the park in a few minutes by car. You can park your car around the park for free in the area surrounding the park. Toorenvliedt is a great place to walk, and the park itself includes a playground and World War II bunkers.
The playground is not super big, but a great stop in the park to play for a while. Kids can also play at some of the bunkers. For example, one of the bunkers included a slide for the kids. It is not a super big park and you should count that with an hour you will have seen the park with your kids. A great activity at the end of the day to let the kids play in a green environment for a while.
Middelburg with kids #4 Zeeuws Museum
The Zeeland Museum has been named the most Kidsproof museum in Zeeland several times. In addition, a great advantage is that kids up to 18 years old can visit the museum for free. The museum tells the history of Zeeland. In all, more than 30,000 art treasures are on display.
The museum also has a cafe where you can also eat a few things like a soup, sandwich and croquette sandwich, but the options are not very wide. The Zeeland Museum is right in the center of town, so for more options walk around and there are plenty of restaurants serving more dishes.

Middelburg with kids: other activities
In addition to the four activities mentioned earlier, there are three more activities in Middelburg and its surroundings that we would like to mention. We briefly describe them below.
#5 Tour boat: you can also see Middelburg from the water on a tour of the city. The cruise takes about 45 minutes and the tour boat travels under low bridges and past several monumental buildings in the downtown area. There are special prices for families if you book the cruise as a family. During the cruise, you will receive information about the city from the boat’s skipper.
#6 Mini Mundi: You can also go to an amusement park with young kids in Middelburg. There are not super many attractions in the amusement park, but that makes the amusement park very manageable. There is a roller coaster, a boat, a carousel, a bouncy castle, cars, a kind of high carousel with hot air balloons and a little train running around. There is also a whole section inside where kids can play and where there are some other small attractions. There is also a miniature world where you can do a scavenger hunt. In short, with young kids you can have a great time here for at least half a day.
#7: Hof van Poppendamme: Just outside Middelburg about ten minutes away by car is this fun playground for kids. The setting here is very relaxed and you can have a great lunch while your kids are playing. A large garden has benches and tables everywhere, where parents sit and enjoy a drink while the kids are playing in the garden. It’s not a big playground, but your kids can have a great time here for an hour or two.
Where to sleep in Middelburg with kids?
