Mercure Hotel Tilburg with kids: a comprehensive review!
For our blog Tilburg with kids about the city we are from ourselves, we still wanted to be able to speak from experience about where the best places to stay in Tilburg with the family are. Hence, we booked a room at the Mercure Hotel Tilburg. Surely this is the most famous hotel in the heart of downtown, so we wanted to test that hotel out. Following our overnight stay at this hotel, we write this comprehensive review!

The hotel is really in the middle of downtown and really has a prime location in that regard. Since Sanne works in downtown Tilburg, we can park the car for free in a downtown parking garage. On that note, there are plenty of parking garages throughout the center where you can park your car. Parking garage Heuvelpoort is next to the hotel and from floor 9 you can enter the hotel through the parking garage. If you don’t mind walking a bit and would like to park your car for free, you can do so on Broekhovenseweg. From there, it is just over a ten-minute walk to the hotel.
We got there by late afternoon and were immediately given the key by the friendly receptionist. It is nice to find all kinds of elements of our city in the lobby of the hotel such as the Tilburg drink Schrobbeler, for example. Furthermore, throughout the hotel and in the rooms you will find cool evening photos of features spots and buildings of the city.
We booked a family room at the hotel and it consists of two double beds. We are at the front of the hotel, which gives us a very cool view of Tilburg’s central square: the Heuvel. Furthermore, in the room we have a desk with a chair. The room is tastefully decorated with a cool photo of Tilburg’s bus station in the background.
What makes the ladies very happy is if the room’s bathroom has a bathtub. We actually carry children’s bath foam in our toiletries bag as standard, and then when we have a room with a bath, we make good use of it right away! Again, our daughter used the bath in the evening as well as in the morning! Furthermore, the room has air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a working WIFI connection!
What is a very big plus of this hotel in the center of Tilburg is that you can use the wellness as a customer of the hotel. This spa is quite large and includes a pool, several saunas and steam rooms. When we were there on Saturday morning, there was no one else at all and we had the entire spa to ourselves! Sophie loved being able to swim again, and we alternated between the pool and the various saunas.
In addition, you have several sun loungers, so you can also relax and read a book. In addition, the spa also has a small cafe where you can order some drinks. It is also possible to order a massage, only of course you will pay extra for this. We really thought this was a super nice addition to our overnight stay at the hotel and spent several hours here as well!
Food and drink in hotel
Near the hotel there are two catering establishments where you can get something to eat and drink. These are Restaurant Taste and Grand Café Puur. Restaurant Taste is a more upscale restaurant, where you can eat delicious food. We have eaten here before in the past and they really serve whole pieces of art on a plate here ;). During our overnight stay, we only ate at Grand Café Puur. At Grand Café Puur we had breakfast and booked a High Tea for kids.
Breakfast was very good and the choice during the buffet was extensive. It is also possible for them to fry you a pancake or an egg. In addition, they have several fresh juices you can drink. For example, they have a machine that squeezes oranges by itself so you can make a glass of fresh gravy. As you can see from the pictures below, there is plenty of choice (including kids) to have a good breakfast. You can have this breakfast both inside the restaurant and on the terrace outside.
After breakfast we went into the wellness and at noon we booked the High Tea for kids. This was also served at Grand Café Puur. This High Tea actually consists of three rounds, in which you get different snacks. This is very extensive and very tasty. You also get a variety of drinks and, of course, plenty of pots of tea. Just keep in mind that you will be sitting for a while and possibly having entertainment for your kids if your kids find it difficult to sit at the table a little longer.
We really enjoyed our overnight stay at Mercure Hotel Tilburg, so we highly recommend it for families when visiting Tilburg with kids. The location is of course top so right in the center, the rooms are luxurious and you can have great food and drinks. In addition, you may use the wellness. This allows you to relax in the pool and saunas at the hotel after a day of walking around the city. For more information on the hotel, rooms and room rates, take a look here.
