Mercure Antwerp City Centre: a review

Last weekend, we were once again on a city break in Antwerp with our daughter and again did many fun activities in this cool city. We already wrote the blog Antwerp with kids about the city, in which we listed all the activities with kids. During this city trip we stayed at the Mercure Antwerp City Centre and as a result of this overnight stay we are writing this review.

The hotel

On Saturday morning we will drive from our residence to the hotel and upon arrival we can park the car in the hotel’s private (paid) parking lot. This parking lot is about 100 meters from the hotel, so we were quickly in the hotel lobby with our suitcase. The hotel was recently renovated and you can clearly see that. The hotel has a fresh modern look and certainly the lobby is very nice.

The hotel is in the middle of the city, and you can walk to most of the city’s attractions. We visited the Antwerp Zoo and Plopsa Station Antwerp, and we were at both activities in five to 10 minutes from the hotel. The hotel also has a gym, if you want to work out during your city break in Antwerp.

The room

We had booked a triple room at the hotel. This room consisted of a large double bed and a sofa bed for our daughter. The room was fully equipped. For example, the room had a working WIFI connection, a small refrigerator, a safe and also a large flat-screen TV on the wall.

There was also a small desk in the room, where our daughter spent quite some time coloring, and the room overlooked the city park that was across the street from the hotel. This gave us an excellent view in the morning. We could also make coffee and tea in the room.

Furthermore, the bathroom we had in the room was modern with a walk-in shower with rain shower. All in all, a nice room to relax in the evening with our daughter after being in the city all day. The room was about 20m2 in size.

The city park opposite the hotel

What is a great advantage of the hotel for families with kids is that there is a fine city park opposite the hotel with a very nice playground. Unfortunately it was quite wet when we were there, but in the summer months you can have a great time here for a few hours across from the hotel. In fact, in the city park there is quite a large playground, where kids can play just fine.

Even for slightly older kids, this playground has quite a bit to offer. For example, there is quite a large climbing apparatus in the shape of a pyramid. There is also a large skate track, from which kids can go down with a scooter or skateboard. In retrospect, we would have been fine taking our daughter’s scooter to play here at the hotel.

Food and drink in hotel

The hotel has a lounge bar and also a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. In that respect, you no longer have to leave the door if you want to have something to eat or drink with your family. Due to the hotel’s central location, there are also plenty of catering establishments within walking distance where you can get something to eat and drink. In that respect, you have everything at your fingertips.

We ourselves used the hotel’s breakfast and it was very good. Actually, everything was there that you would expect from a good breakfast in a hotel. So they had different breads and spreads, juices, coffee and tea, fresh eggs, different cereals and nuts, yogurts, croissants, fresh fruit and much more. So we left the hotel with a very well-filled stomach.

Conclusion

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at the Mercure hotel Antwerp City Centre. The hotel is perfectly located right in the center and has a fresh modern look. The hotel has nice spacious rooms and is fully equipped. In addition, you can eat delicious food there and, for families with kids, it also has a city park right on the doorstep with a really fun playground. In that respect, we really recommend the hotel for families with kids who are going to Antwerp for a weekend.
