You can visit a number of family-friendly cities in Limburg with kids. We list the best cities below.

#1 Maastricht: This is the largest city in the province of Limburg and of course there is plenty to do here for families with kids. Maastricht’s cozy downtown is fun to visit with the family, and a visit to the caves of St. Peter should not be missing from your list. The city also has several more fun playgrounds.

#2 Valkenburg: This is one of the best visited cities in Limburg and we must say that we found Valkenburg to be a really nice place as well. For example, you can visit the Sprookjesbos (Fairytale Forest) in Valkenburg and it is also definitely fun to take the cable car up the mountain.

On this mountain you can do all kinds of things with kids, such as tobogganing, tubing (with a large inflatable tire), laser gaming, playing miniature golf and abseiling. #3 Roermond: A visit to this city is especially great in the summer. Roermond is located on the water and because of this, there is plenty to do around the water in this city. For example, the largest aqua park in the Netherlands is located in Roermond and kids can play on a 2000 m2 play island here. It is also possible to wakeboard or take a boat out on the water in Roermond.

Roermond is also home to a large outlet center for families who love shopping, and the city center is connected to this outlet center, making it great to combine both in one day. #4 Venlo: This city is a great base if you want to explore northern Limburg with kids. After all, you can do all sorts of things in northern Limburg. For example, you have Toverland amusement park located here and also Klein Zwitserland play park. Also near Venlo are the castle gardens of Arcen, where you can walk and kids can play. #5 Toverland: The biggest amusement park in Limburg is Toverland in Sevenum. You have both an indoor section and an outdoor section here. In winter only the indoor section is open and in summer both sections are open to the public.

Toverland is divided into different worlds and has a number of spectacular attractions, making it attractive to visit the park even for slightly older kids. We visited the amusement park with our daughter in winter and enjoyed ourselves all day. In addition to the many playground equipment and attractions, kids can play in several water playgrounds.

#6 Mondo Verde: before we booked our vacation to Limburg, we didn’t know this park at all. Mondo Verde is a combination of an amusement park, large playground, zoo and nature park. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the park is, but what we do know is that there is plenty to do for kids. The park is divided into different country themes and operates on the all-inclusive principle. That means that at the entrance, food and drinks are also included.

With each country, they have different things you can eat and drink. In addition to various attractions such as a roller coaster, carousel and various playground equipment, the park also has a fun water park. #7 GaiaZoo: you can visit one of the most beautiful zoos in the Netherlands in Limburg with kids. GaiaZoo is a beautiful zoo, where the animals are in spacious enclosures and where there is plenty of greenery. You can admire most of the large African animals (except the elephant) at this zoo. For kids, there are plenty of play equipment throughout the zoo and especially DinoDome (indoor playground) is a very cool play area for kids. #8 Sprookjesbos: If you visit Limburg with kids who are young, this park is definitely recommended. Of course you will find the various fairy tales here, but there are also a number of attractions such as a carousel, swing ship and airplanes. #9 Speelpark Klein Zwitserland: this park is located near Venlo and kids can enjoy playing in the adventure forest here. There is also plenty of playground equipment, including the tallest swing in Europe. For the smallest kids, there is a separate area (Speelland) where they can go. It is also possible to play miniature golf with the family in a mine shaft.

Limburg with kids: other activities

#10 Mosaqua Swimming Pool: if you want to go swimming with kids in Limburg, this pool is definitely a nice option. The subtropical water park has both an indoor and outdoor pool as well as several slides. So you can swim here throughout the year. In addition to the various slides, the pool has a wave pool, a jungle pool for the little ones, a whitewater course and, for the parents, whirlpools and a steam room.

#11 Snowworld Landgraaf: If you want to do an active activity in Limburg then you can spend a day skiing or snowboarding. In Landgraaf, they have the largest indoor ski village in Europe. You have five different slopes here, including one for young kids (kinderland). There is also a fun park, where you can stunt on skis in the snow. Near the ski village is also a whole climbing park, where kids as young as 1.20 meters can climb.

#12 Steinerbos: this huge park is full of playground equipment and you can spend many hours having fun here with the family. We were only there at the end of the day and could and would have stayed much longer. Throughout the park there are all kinds of playgrounds with a huge amount of playground equipment. The park also has a separate indoor playground, a large swimming pool, a pond with rowboats and a go-kart track, where kids can play with go-karts. #13 Drielandenpunt: this is the point in Limburg, where three countries meet (the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany). This point itself does not represent much, but you can do all kinds of things at this place in Limburg with kids. For example, there is a large labyrinth, which is not easy to get out of, you have the highest located playground in the Netherlands and you have an observation tower, where you have a beautiful view of the surroundings!

#14 Kinderstad Heerlen: This indoor playground has a number of rides in addition to different playground equipment. For example, kids can ride trunks, bumper cars, a carousel, pedal boats and a roller coaster. If you’re looking for an activity in Limburg with kids when the weather is a little less, this is definitely a good option.

#15 Fun Forest Venlo: we love climbing ourselves, so we definitely wanted to include a climbing forest in this list of activities in Limburg with kids. Kids as young as 1.10 meters tall can climb here and the height of the courses start from 2.5 meters. There are different courses for different lengths, making it attractive for both young and older kids to climb. It’s also fun for parents to climb with the kids. You should count on spending about half a day with this activity.
