Visiting Legoland Billund with kids is always fun! We as a family with 3 boys (aged 11, 10 and 4 at the time) who love and play a lot with Lego. could not skip this park when we were traveling through Scandinavia with the family. Legoland Billund Denmark is great for kids of all ages, but really the most fun for ages 2-12. This amusement park in Denmark is all about LEGO and with more than 50 attractions, you can easily spend a whole day here having fun. From merry-go-rounds and roller coasters to whitewater rides and interactive 3D rides. We spent a day at Legoland in Denmark with our kids and in this blog we give you all the information you need for a day at Legoland Billund with kids.
Best travel time Legoland Billund with kids
Legoland Billund Denmark is open from the end of March through the end of December. They are open almost every day then, but sometimes the park is closed on certain days. So check the Legoland Billund Denmark website carefully in advance to see if the amusement park is open on the day you want to visit.
The best travel time for Legoland Billund Denmark is from May through September, as that is when temperatures rise in Denmark and it is nice if the weather is nice when visiting an amusement park. July and August have the warmest days. Of course, it can rain in Denmark every day (even in the summer), so check the forecast beforehand and bring rain gear for the rain if necessary.
Also keep in mind that the summer months are the busiest months at Legoland and that is when prices of accommodations in the area increase.
Transportation to and in Legoland Billund Denmark
Legoland-Billund can be found in Denmark which is about 7 hours drive from the Netherlands.
If you are going on a road-trip through Scandinavia or on vacation in one of the northern countries, a stopover and visit to this fantastic park with your kids can not be missed.
Or you go by plane to Billund.
That’s an hour flight from Amsterdam and Legoland is about 3 kilometers from the airport.
If you fly to Denmark and rent a car here, you can do so at both Billund Airport and Copenhagen Airport with the rental company Sunny Cars. With Sunny Cars, they work with an all-inclusive principle, which means that most insurances and also the excess are included in the price.

General information Legoland Billund
The park is usually open between 10-17 am or 10-18 pm. This can vary from day to day. There are several parking lots around the park where you can park your car for a fee. You pay a flat fee for the entire day to park the car. From the parking lot it is a few minutes walk to the park entrance,
The Legoland Billund app is nice to download in advance on your phone. In this app you can find all general information about the park such as opening hours, but also a map, the waiting times for different attractions and you can buy tickets for the park through this app. We always like this kind of app in amusement parks, because it makes it easy to find your way around.
Tickets for Legoland Billund
You can of course buy tickets to Legoland Billund on the park’s official website, Here you can choose from tickets for one day or for 2 days. If you go outside the high season then you can see most of the park in one day. If your kids are taller than 120 cm then they are allowed in most attractions and then 1 day in high season can be tight.
You can therefore visit the park for 2 days just fine. If you buy a pass for 2 days, the ticket is also cheaper on average per day. Of course, check in advance for online promotions. Some vacation providers offer free tickets to Legoland if you book a vacation to Denmark. This, of course, can save a lot of money.
A little online search can therefore save a lot of money. You also have booklets from Lego that are often found at toy stores that contain discount offers for this amusement park. So ask your local toy store if they have a Lego catalog.
The park Legoland Billund Denmark
Legoland Billund Denmark consists of 12 different areas. These are the areas The Lego Movie World, Duplo Land, Knights Kingdom, Legoredo Town, Miniland, Peppa Pig Playground, Lego Ninjago World, Adventure Land, Polar Land, Pirate Land, Imagination Zone and Brick Street. We will briefly discuss the different areas below.
Miniland: is actually the centerpiece of the original LEGOLAND plan. In Miniland, several buildings have been recreated in miniature with Lego using as many as 20 million Lego bricks. You also have 9 different attractions here for the somewhat smaller kids. These attractions consist of different trains made of Lego that kids can ride on, boats, cars and a kind of Ferris wheel.
The Lego Movie World: in this world you have 2 different attractions and a playground made of Lego that you can visit. At both attractions you sit on a bench and go up in height. For these attractions, kids must have a minimum height of 100 cm. Also check in advance on the website of Legoland Billund which attractions your kids can enter.
Duplo Land: in this themed area, everything revolves around Duplo and you have a total of 4 different attractions intended mainly for young kids. For example, here you have a train made of Duplo, airplanes made of Duplo, several playhouses made of Duplo and a small Ferris wheel.
Knights Kingdom: in this area you have 2 attractions and also the castle show takes place here. The two attractions are a roller coaster and a white water ride. For the roller coaster, kids must be at least 100 cm tall and for the white water ride 115 cm. At the latter you can of course get wet. If the weather is not so good and you still like to do this attraction, bring something like a poncho with you.
Legoredo Town: in this themed area of Legoland Billund Denmark, you have several attractions you can visit. For example, there is a haunted house for kids taller than 110 cm. There is also a roller coaster (length 100 cm), a tree trunk that pops into the water (100 cm) and electric horses for the slightly younger kids. In addition, you can play with Lego bricks and boats in this area and it is possible to go searching for gold with a sieve here.
Peppa Pig Playground: in this themed area there are no attractions, but it is just a play area in the theme of Peppa Pig.
Lego Ninjago World: In this themed area, you have three different things you can do. You have an attraction where you ride around in a cart with 3d glasses on. Also, kids can climb on a wall here and lastly, they have a maze of laser lights here where kids have to climb through as fast as possible.
Adventure Land: in this themed area of Legoland Billund, you can go in 4 different attractions with kids. They have here a fast roller coaster (minimum length 120 cm), an attraction with a fire engine where you have to put out a fire, an attraction where you go around very fast in a boat and an indoor ride where you have to shoot things with a gun.
Polar Land: in this ice area you have 2 attractions for kids from 120 cm height. This one is a fast roller coaster and the other attraction is a kind of computer arm that swings a cart in all directions and where you also go over the head. If you want to get nauseous as a parent, this last attraction is definitely a good idea ;). In addition, children can also play with boats in this area and there is an area with lots of ice cream, where kids can also play with Lego.
Pirate Land: This area is all about pirates and at all four attractions of this themed area you are in some kind of pirate boat. One boat is quiet and sails on the water, the other boat just spins around a lot and at the other boat you sit in a rocking ship, At the last attraction with a boat you can spray each other wet and this attraction is especially attractive in the hot summer months.
Imagination Zone: in this themed area you have a cinema where you can watch movies made by Lego in 4D. Also, here you have a show with fountains. And also it is possible to go to Sea Life in this area. Here you can see all kinds of tropical fish in the different aquariums.
Brick Street: this themed area is all about playing with Lego and Duplo and here kids can also build. You can attend Lego workshops here or just play around.
Shows Legoland Billund
You can go to several shows in Legoland Billund Denmark. You have some Lego 4D movies that you can watch in the cinema. That looks pretty cool and these movies are also fun for kids to watch. You can also go to different Lego shows in the park. For example, there is a Peppa Pig show, a castle show and you have a show in Legoland Billund Garden.
In addition, it is possible to have a meet and greet with different characters from Lego. It is always fun for kids to have their picture taken with one of the Lego heroes. If you want to see many of the different shows and movies in addition to the attractions, then you really need to set aside 2 days for this amusement park.
Our experiences in Legoland Billund
Age difference between kids is sometimes a bit tricky when visiting amusement parks we find. You really have to pay attention that it is challenging and fun for both younger and older kids. Fortunately, this worked out very well in Legoland Billund! Really let yourself be surprised, marvel and enjoy! For example, our oldest son and I wanted to go on the cool rollercoasters, but the youngest was not allowed to because of his height.
We walked around a bit and soon realized that Legoland-Billund is not huge. You don’t have to walk very long distances to certain attractions. The park is quite compact and everything is close together. We enjoyed all the Lego structures and it was 1 big inspiration park for our boys.
We first did the family-friendly rides together, and after we were a little more bored there, we split up and I went on the rides for older kids with the oldest and we screamed with joy on the roller coasters, while my husband and the other 2 kids got to ride the boats and let their imaginations run wild among the building blocks, among other things.
This allowed us to really experience as many things as possible with our kids. At the exit of the park is the largest Lego store in the world, so it is almost impossible to leave the park without a Lego souvenir. We didn’t manage that either ;). We bought a beautiful souvenir for everyone and of course this was played with right away in our camper.
Good to know is that the LEGO shop is open an hour longer than the park itself. Lego is not cheaper here, but there are several limited-editions that cannot be bought anywhere else but in this store. That, of course, is super cool!
Eating and drinking in Legoland Billund
In Legoland there are plenty of places where you can eat something delicious with the kids: from soda, coffee or fries to ice cream or a delicious sandwich.
For example, you have Minichef, which is a bit like the Mc Donalds, but everything is of course in Lego theme.
Eating in such a restaurant is really a fun experience and you can eat the most delicious chicken nuggets and Lego fries here.
Or eat the most delicious burgers in the Burger-Kitchen, where you can also have your picture taken on the red carpet with famous LEGO-built stars. Or eat spare ribs at the Saloon. Or the restaurant at Holiday Village. This restaurant features a pirate restaurant where the whole family can enjoy an extensive and delicious breakfast or dinner buffet.
But even just outside Legoland in Billund itself there are really plenty of family-friendly restaurants, such as the Grill-House where they have the most delicious burgers. Are you fond of pizza? Then stop by Bellini Café & Ristorante.
Family-friendly hotel Legoland Billund
There are plenty of family-friendly hotels to be found around Legoland Billund and below I list a few:
The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel: this is themed around a LEGO-style castle. This hotel is located just outside the main entrance to LEGOLAND. Here you can choose from cool themed rooms like the Princess room, the Wizard room or the Dragon Knight room to play and sleep. Each room offers a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries. All rooms have air conditioning and a desk.
A buffet breakfast is provided in the morning. The hotel’s restaurant, Knight’s Tavern, is open daily. There you will find an indoor play area. The distance to LEGO House Billund is 1.2 km. Lalandia Billund: at this park you can rent a bungalow with your family and at the park itself there is a large water park with slides for the kids. Of course totally great for the kids.
