You can have an excellent vacation of a few weeks in the Istria region with kids. We ourselves also visited the region for a week during our tour of Croatia and found it to be a wonderful finale with sun, sea and beach. In addition to the region’s many beaches, there are plenty of other activities for families with kids. We list the best activities in Istria with kids.

Istria with kids: fun villages

You can visit a number of fun places in Istria with kids. We list the nicest villages.

#1 Pula: This city in Istria is known for its large Roman amphitheater that is so well preserved. In addition, in the center you have several other Roman remains such as a temple, city gate and a fortress. Furthermore, in Pula you also have an aquarium and a water park that you can visit with kids. If you want to spend a day with kids at a climbing park, you can also visit Pula. #2 Porec: This is another ancient Roman city and the most visited by tourists in the region. The most famous landmark in the center is the Unesco Euphrasius Basilica. You also have a number of beaches you can visit from the center. Porec also has plenty to do for kids. There is an aquarium, a water park, a climbing park and you can also go to a Dinopark nearby. In short, there is enough to do in the city to go there for a day or two.

#3 Rovinj: This town is also sometimes called the Saint-Tropez of the region. This colorful city is beautifully situated on the waterfront and it is definitely recommended to take a stroll through the small streets and alleys of the old town. You will also find St. Euphemia’s Church, whose tower you can climb and where you will have a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings. There is also an aquarium in Rovinj that you can visit with kids.

Istria with kids: Water parks

We always enjoy taking our daughter to a water park for a day during summer vacation. You can visit two fun water parks in Istria with kids, which we describe below.

#4 Istralandia: this water park is located in the north of Istria and from Porec you can drive there in about 25 minutes by car. You have more than ten different spectacular slides here, which you may or may not slide down with a tire. Several slides do have a length restriction for kids, so be sure to check the website (see blue link) in advance to see what all the kids are allowed off. There is also plenty to do for the youngest kids. For example, there are several pools for this target group, with different play equipment and slides.

#5 Aquapark Aquacolors: you can go to a second water park in Istria with kids and this water park is located near the city of Porec. Also at this water park, you have more than ten different spectacular slides that you can slide down. The water park also has a half-kilometer-long lazyriver, where you can use a tire to let the current carry you through the water park. Here, too, there is an area for the smallest kids as well as a relaxation area with, for example, a large whirlpool.

Istria with kids: climbing parks

You have quite a few fun climbing parks in Istria that you can go to with kids. We list the best ones below.

#6 Adrenalin park Medulin: this park is ten minutes away from the city of Pula by car. This climbing park is not super big and has about 35 obstacles. They also have a 160-meter-long zip-line. In addition to the climbing activity, you can also play paintball here with kids, ride a baby carriage and do some kind of free fall from 12 meters.

#7 Adventure park Jungalooz: of this climbing park you have two parks around Pula, with one of these climbing parks being near Adrenalin Park Medulin. You have five different starting levels at the climbing park in Fazana, with the easiest course at 1.5 meters and the most difficult course at 10 meters.

There are more than 50 different obstacles as well as a long Zipline and a trampoline park. You also have a climbing wall at this climbing park where the kids can climb. Kids as tall as 1.20 meters can climb here. The climbing park in Umag is similar to the one in Fazana.

Istria with kids #8: Veli Brijun

Brijuni National Park has two large islands and 12 smaller islands. The islands are just off the coast and from Fazana you can easily reach the islands by ferry. You can easily visit the islands with an organized tour from one of the tourist towns in Istria.

On the island itself, you have several ways to see the island. For example, a tourist train runs around, but it is also possible to rent a bicycle or golf cart. With kids, you can go to a safari park here, where you can see the elephant, turtle, zebra and sacred Indian cow. There are also traces of dinosaurs on the island.

Reviews of these tours are not very favorable, and the best way to explore the island is to book only the crossing and then rent something on the spot. In addition, you can spend a few hours relaxing on the beaches present on the island, and you can do great snorkeling with kids in this nature reserve. For example, you have an area where you can snorkel among Roman ruins.

Istria with kids: other activities

In addition to the activities in Istria described above, there are more activities you can do in Istria with kids. We briefly list the best activities below.

#9 Dinopark Funtana: near the town of Porec, you will find this dinopark. It is actually a large park with all kinds of walking trails, where you will find several large dinos along the way, and there are also a number of attractions you can visit. These attractions include a small Ferris wheel, roller coaster, swing ship and little train. You can also visit various shows in the park and there is a children’s zoo that has mainly petting animals.

#10 Day in Venice: you can take a boat from Istria to the beautiful Italian city of Venice. When we were in Istria we did the same. Keep in mind that the boat takes about three hours for a one-way trip, but we thought it was a fun trip on the boat. Venice is beautiful and it is definitely fun to visit the city once with your kids. We wrote the blog Venice with kids about this city .

#11 Pazin Cave: this cave is a natural phenomenon carved by the river Pazinčica. The cave is about 270 meters long and lies at the base of a 100-meter-high cliff. This cave ends in a large lake. Of course you can visit this cave, but near the cave it is also fun to go ziplining with kids.

In total, there are four different ziplines at the cave that kids can go off of. These four different ziplines have different lengths and therefore different speeds, allowing kids to decide which zipline they dare to go down.
