Gouda with kids: 5 kids’ activities in a row!
A weekend trip to Gouda with kids is fun! We actually didn’t really know beforehand what there was to do in this city in South Holland, but there are enough children’s activities here to keep you entertained for a whole weekend in this city that is perhaps best known for its cheese. Following our weekend getaway to Gouda, we list the best children’s getaways in Gouda.
Table of contents
#1 Dino Experience Park
A fun children’s activity in Gouda is the Dino Experience Park. This park is all about dinosaurs and you have several sections at this park. We park the car (paid) in front of the park entrance and are one of the first visitors to the park in the early morning.
First, we get started with two scavenger hunts. In one scavenger hunt we have to find (five) eggs and then write down which dinosaurs they are and in the other scavenger hunt we are given all kinds of questions about the different dinosaurs. We walk a route through the park with the various dinosaurs and occasionally there are some play equipment for the kids in between.
After successfully completing both scavenger hunts, we will search for gold with sieves in the sand and water. Our daughter loves this activity. Especially when she finds all kinds of beautiful pebbles in her strainer. After this, we play a game of miniature golf with the family. This super fun course has a total of 18 holes and is a fun children’s activity to do in the park.
By now it is already noon and we have lunch outside in the sunshine on the park’s terrace. Here is also the playground, allowing us to sit in the sun while our daughter enjoys herself on the playground equipment and bouncy castles. Here our daughter continued to have fun for quite some time, so we spent almost an entire day in this park enjoying ourselves. We definitely recommended this park if you are taking a city trip to Gouda with kids. We wrote about this park the blog Dino Experience Park Gouda.
#2 Scavenger hunt through Gouda
A second children’s outing in Gouda is the scavenger hunt that goes through downtown Gouda. You can get this scavenger hunt through the VVV of Gouda. You can purchase this scavenger hunt for a few euros (the VVV is on Market Square in the center of town) and from the VVV this scavenger hunt also starts.
Here you will walk a scenic route through downtown and along the way you will pass beautiful historic buildings and have to answer questions. These are questions such as, for example, a year of a building or for kids to count the number of pillars of a building. When we did the scavenger hunt, the weather was beautiful, so it was great to take a tour of the city.
The route of the scavenger hunt was easy to follow based on the descriptions accompanying it in the booklet. In the end, we were able to solve most of the questions. If you are looking for a fun and inexpensive children’s activity in Gouda, then this scavenger hunt is definitely a great option for your family!
#3 City Beach GOUDasfalt
If you’re in Gouda with kids on a sunny day, we highly recommend a visit to the Stadsstrand GOUDasfalt. From the center you can walk in ten minutes to the ferry that can take you across the island for a small fee (1 euro). By the way, it is also possible to drive here by car and park the car near the beach for free.
GOUDasfalt is home to all kinds of small business owners who value corporate social responsibility. We ourselves have only visited the city beach at GOUDasfalt and it was a really nice place. When we were there, there were a lot of families with kids all sitting on beach chairs, beanbags and at picnic tables with the kids playing nicely.
By itself, there is only a climbing apparatus on the beach and a small trampoline, but kids still have a great time here. For example, the beanbags were used by the kids to jump on and build some kind of hut, and the beach sand was also an ideal place to play in with shovels and buckets. We spent all afternoon here, which was really lovely in the sunshine. You can also have a great lunch and a drink here!
#4 Gouda Cheese Experience
When you think of Gouda, you really do think of cheese! It is the most important product from the city, which also ensures that many international tourists visit the city. Of course, there is a museum in town all about this product. The Gouda Cheese Experience is located on the edge of downtown and within a few minutes you can walk here.
At the museum, there is a sort of scavenger hunt for kids, where they can answer questions about the production of cheese. At the museum, they show the different stages of making cheese. They do this in a way that is also fun for kids. This also allows kids to interactively make cheese and milk a cow themselves.
It is also possible to dress up here and have your picture taken in traditional clothing. Always fun of course to take a picture like this with the family. Finally, you can then taste different cheeses. And that was very tasty. In total, we spent just over an hour in here and found it very educational (and delicious).
#5 Kamphuisen Syrup Waffle Factory
Another product Gouda is known for is the Kamphuisen syrup waffle. The factory of this is right in the center of the city of Gouda on the marketplace. You will be the first to learn more about the history of this famous syrup waffle (note it is not a syrup waffle, but a syrup waffle).
Then you see how the production process goes on and these are also the real machines, with which they make and market the product. Of course, it is possible, for example, to taste the different types of syrup, and on the basis of an audio box you will get even more information about the production process.
Finally, you’ll take a slide down to the café, where you can sample another syrup waffle. We were already given these waffles at the hotel when we checked in and we thought they were really super tasty. So we picked up another package of cookies at the store for home. We ended up spending an hour inside the factory.
Family-friendly restaurant Gouda
Pancake Cow Gouda
If you start searching online for family-friendly restaurant in Gouda, Pannenkoe Gouda usually comes up at the top of the search results. Naturally, we wanted to go there ourselves to eat a pancake with our daughter. The restaurant sits on the edge of the center of Gouda, and you can walk from the center to the restaurant in about ten minutes.
This restaurant in Gouda is very suitable for kids. You obviously have a lot of different pancakes (as well as some other dishes) and before you eat, kids are given a coloring page, with all kinds of assignments on paper and colored pencils to entertain themselves as well. When we were there it was very crowded with families with kids.
In addition, the restaurant has a play area that also has a sort of grab-and-go machine, where kids can grab a gift with a coin after they eat. For kids, of course, super fun done. Because you always have a prize in the vending machine, so every kid gets a little something. All these elements make it a super family-friendly restaurant to visit in Gouda.
Family-friendly hotel Gouda
Best Western Plus City Hotel Gouda
If you are looking for a family-friendly hotel in Gouda, the Best Western Plus City Hotel Gouda is a great place to stay. This hotel is located on the edge of downtown about a ten-minute walk from downtown. In this hotel we had booked a Suite and this spacious room had a double bed and also a sofa bed. In addition, it had a fantastic bathroom with a large bathtub. We wrote about this hotel the blog Best Western Plus City Hotel Gouda with kids, in which we describe the hotel in detail.
