Climbing park Fun Forest Rotterdam with kids: all the information!

We love the city of Rotterdam and have visited the city several weekends. We already wrote the blog Rotterdam with kids about this city, in which we listed all the activities you can do in this city with the family. Similarly, we had previously visited the Kralingse Bos, which includes Klimpark Fun Forest Rotterdam.

During our first visit to this Kralingse Bos we already wanted to climb here, but then everything was already full, so a good reason to come back here again. Last Friday was the day and we climbed here with our daughter. Following our visit to Fun Forest Rotterdam, we write this comprehensive blog with all the information about the climbing park.

Climbing park Fun Forest Rotterdam with kids: general information!

We drive on Friday afternoon towards the Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam, where the climbing park is located, and we park the car for free in the parking lot at catering establishment Beach House Kralingse Bos. From here it is about a five-minute walk to the climbing park. As far as we are concerned, a big advantage is that you can thus park your car here for free. The climbing park is also easily accessible by public transportation.

Kids may come and climb in Klimpark Fun Forest Rotterdam if they are six years old and have a height of at least 110 cm. The climbing park is open from February through November. You can come and climb at the climbing park for two to three hours, depending on your height. The fees you pay also depend on how many courses you are allowed to complete based on age and height.

We check in at the climbing park box office and show our online reservation. If you want to be sure you can climb that day, we recommend booking in advance. The first time when we hadn’t done this, everything was already full and we couldn’t climb. Look here to make an online reservation for the climbing park in Rotterdam.

After being explained by our guide and secured, we can start at the practice circuit, where we are taught the basic skills of climbing. Here you will learn how to handle the belt, fuse and pulley, for example, and the equipment will be checked again by the guide. After this we can go climbing in the climbing park!

Climbing park Fun Forest Rotterdam with kids: the courses!

You can climb two to nine courses at Klimpark Fun Forest Rotterdam with kids depending on the length. For kids as young as six with a height of at least 1.10 meters, there are two courses they can climb. For this, they will have a total of two hours. Our daughter climbed these two courses with daddy and in this time she did both courses twice. It depends a bit on your kid’s speed and how many kids are climbing on the course how many times you can climb this course.

We do recommend for young kids that you as a parent climb with them. We also saw young kids climbing on their own during our climbing trip, and at some point they didn’t dare anymore. Then it’s still nice to have a parent there. Also, sometimes with the cable it is still difficult to get it through the course and then help from a parent is desirable. It also makes some difference whether your kids have climbed before. Our daughter has already climbed regularly in different climbing parks and then you do notice that she is completing the courses faster and faster.

Six courses are available for kids as young as eight years old with a minimum height of 1.30 meters. In addition to the first two courses, you then have four other courses that your kids may complete. However, kids on courses 5 and 6 must be accompanied by an adult. In total, you may then climb for three hours. You do need that time if you want to do all the courses with your kids.

Children taller than 6 feet (1.50 meters) may complete all nine courses, with courses 8 and 9 there is an additional restriction that kids must be at least 14 years old. In that regard, a climbing activity is great fun for both young children and adolescents, and it is also fun for parents to climb with the kids. Therefore, as far as we are concerned, climbing is really an activity for the whole family!

It is also possible to take to the water at the climbing park with a SUP board or a canoe at the Kralingse plassen. This way you can make a whole day out of it with the family.

Climbing park Fun Forest Rotterdam with kids: food and drinks!

It is also possible to eat with kids at the Fun Forest Rotterdam climbing park. Near the climbing park is a little restaurant with an outdoor terrace, where you can have a great lunch at noon. You can order sandwiches, sandwiches, wraps, pancakes and pizza here. This involves the use of as much organic produce as possible.

It is also possible to just have a drink alone with a piece of apple pie. By the way, there are several options in the Kralingse Bos for something to eat and drink. For example, we ourselves have already had lunch once at Brasserie Woodz, which is a ten-minute walk from the climbing park.

Climbing park Fun Forest Rotterdam with kids: conclusion!

We had another two hours of excellent fun at Klimpark Fun Forest in Rotterdam. We both completed the first two courses twice, always liking the plucking among the trees the most. We think it’s a really fun activity for kids of all ages to do during, say, a city trip to Rotterdam.

Our daughter is about 1.25 meters tall, so when she is eight years old soon and has also grown a little we will definitely come back to climb the park’s other courses as well. For more information on opening hours, prices and the different courses, check out Fun Forest Rotterdam‘s website.

Where to stay in Rotterdam with kids?

Of course, it is perfectly possible to go to Rotterdam for a whole weekend with kids. There is enough to do in the city to keep you entertained for at least a week. We ourselves have slept in the city several times in different accommodations and we list below some of our recommendations in the city for families with kids:

Hostel Room Rotterdam: very nice hostel, where there is a relaxed atmosphere. The hostel also has a family room for families.

SS Rotterdam: this hotel is a sight in itself. You sleep on an old cruise ship, and there is plenty to do on the ship itself. We really enjoyed spending a night here.

Hotel The James Rotterdam: this is a luxury hotel right in the center of Rotterdam. We found this hotel very welcoming and also rented bikes here at the hotel.

Urban Residences: one of the nicest apartments we ever slept in was from this organization. They have beautiful apartments right in the center, where there really is everything. We thought this was a super nice experience to spend a night here in all that luxury.
