Volkel with kids: Zoo See Zoo
One Saturday morning, we drive up to Volkel with our daughter to visit Zoo See Zoo. What is immediately a good entry point is that you can park your car for free in the spacious parking lot at the animal park. Right outside at the cash register there are all kinds of animal statues and also a large cage with birds in it. Clearly, we have arrived at the zoo.
At the ticket booth we are given a map of the animal park and the park is in a kind of n shape. So you first walk all the way to the back in a counterclockwise arc until you reach the restaurant and playground and then back again via a route past other animals. The day we are there the weather is lovely, so it is absolutely no punishment to walk among the animals here.
The animal park has several large and lesser animals such as camels, bears, giant tortoises, hyenas, foxes, meerkats, penguins and dozens more. The funny thing is that for kids, it doesn’t always have to be very large animals. For example, our daughter found the cages with guinea pigs most interesting because you could pet them. At these critters we stayed for at least half an hour.
In general, you can get very close to most animals. For example, you can almost touch the penguins in the zoo. Especially with small kids, this is extra fun because they get a good look at the animals too! With many different animals, you also have steps for kids, so they can see it well too.
Because the animal park is not super large, it is also nice and orderly. At the end of the animal park you also have a playground and a restaurant where you can get something to eat and drink. As far as we are concerned, always a nice thing, since we can then eat at our leisure, while our daughter (once she has eaten) does not have to sit at the table, but can go play right away.
We ended up spending just over half a day at the zoo. We found it a very nice outing with our daughter to undertake in Volkel. In that respect, the animal park is definitely recommended if you visit Volkel with kids.
The animal park is open every day of the year. Fun fact about this zoo is that it is the first care zoo in the Netherlands. People with autism have a useful day activity at the animal park. For more information on the different animals, entrance fees and address, check out the zoo’s website.
Volkel with kids: Billybird Park Hemelrijk
BillyBird Park Hemelrijk is difficult to describe exactly what it is. Is it an amusement park or more like a big playground. Or is it some kind of water park with playground equipment? It has a little bit of everything and the park is well visited especially in the hot summer months. When we are there with our daughter it is not super warm, so swimming is not an option. This also makes it a lot quieter in the park when we are there.
The entire park actually surrounds a large lake. In the summer, kids can swim at this lake and there is an aqua fun park on the water. There is also a large beach around this, where you can enjoy the sun as a family.
Play equipment can be found on almost all sides of the lake. Near the entrance you have right away a nature playground and also a giant slide with several pieces of playground equipment. A climbing mountain can also be found nearby. Our daughter loves to climb, so of course we have to go up the mountain with her. The various pieces of playground equipment are widely spaced apart, so most of them are not very crowded. This does make it a lot less manageable and we have to keep a close eye on our daughter.
Walking a bit further along the water into the park, we came to an indoor playground. Even when the weather is less, you can play at BillyBird, but most of the equipment is still outside. However, there is also an indoor theater and huge ball pit near the indoor playground. Here are also some terraces, where you can eat and drink something.
As we walk again a little further into the park we see several more carnival-like attractions such as a merry-go-round, hovermill, teacups and bumper cars. We also see the big roller coaster from here, which unfortunately we are not yet allowed to enter with Sophie, as kids must be at least 110 cm tall.
When we get to the very back of the park, here is another large playground with a sort of traffic plaza as well. In that regard, we had a whole day of fun here with our daughter. This park is also highly recommended if you are visiting Volkel with kids. Kids can easily play here for a whole day. We can imagine that when the weather is nice and you can also swim, you can easily entertain your family here for two days! For more information about the park at BillyBird Hemelrijk check out the park’s website.
