Camping Drentse Monden with kids: a review!

During our trip to the province of Drenthe, we slept at Minicamping Drentse Monden. A small-scale campsite, where you quickly get a real vacation feeling. Normally we actually sleep mostly in hotels in the Netherlands, but we have to say that we really liked this one. Of course, the beautiful weather we had also played a big part in that. As a result of our overnight stay at this campground, we are writing this comprehensive review of the campground.

The campsite

Located just over a 15-minute drive from downtown Emmen, the campground is set in a wide rural setting. We arrive at the campsite in the afternoon and, of course, we can park the car for free. We consider this a great advantage over a hotel, where there is often a cost for parking the car.

Despite being a mini campground, guests have plenty of space. It’s not like everyone is on top of each other which we ourselves always like very much. It also has a small playground and a few farm animals, including some young ducks. Also, you may use at the campsite the owners’ swimming pool which is a great advantage of the campsite especially in summer.

The cottage

We had booked the cabin at this campsite. In total, the campground has two such cabins. There are actually two sections in the cabin. The back part of the cabin is the sleeping area. Here there is a double bed and a bunk bed for the kids. So you can book the cabins with families of four.

In the front section there is a small kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave and sink, and there is a seating area, for when the weather is not so good and you can still sit inside. In front of the cabin you have a seat with two chairs and there is also a large picnic table. The weather was wonderful when we were at this campground, so we spent a lot of time here. We sat here in the afternoon coloring and playing games and had breakfast in the morning.

The swimming pool

What we find a big plus about staying overnight at this campground is that you get to use the owners’ swimming pool. This pool can be reached from the campsite after a minute’s walk, so it is very close. The pool is certainly not small and big enough for our daughter to cool off for a while.

Around the pool are a few nice lounge chairs and there is a hammock. There is also a small bar near the pool, but it is not yet in use. The owner told us that he still had biggest plans for the pool area and that in the future there will be beach sand and maybe in the future a Jacuzzi will be placed by the pool.

For us, the area by the pool was a great place to relax in the sun and recover from the busy day we had had at Dinoland in Zwolle. With a glass of wine and a beer, we lay back and watched our daughter having fun in the pool with her goggles.

Food and drink

It is also possible to have something to eat and drink at the campsite. We ate there and had fries with a burger. In addition to the burger, it was also possible to order a schnitzel. The menu is not super extensive, but it was sufficient for us. The food is very good quality we must say and we enjoyed the food, the sunshine and the surroundings during dinner.

Conclusion

We really enjoyed our overnight stay in the cabin at mini camping Drentse Monden. We had a fine cabin with a nice sitting area in front of the cabin to have a drink at the end of the day. In addition, at the end of the day we were able to relax in the pool and afterwards we could also have a bite to eat at the campsite. Normally we are not into camping in the Netherlands, but we really liked this one!
