Best Western Hotel Groningen Centre with kids: a review!
When we visited the lovely city of Groningen for the second time, we once again wanted to be downtown with our hotel. Downtown is compact, so this way you can easily go anywhere downtown on foot from the hotel. When we looked at all the options possible online, we saw that the Best Western Hotel Groningen Centre was renting out very nice apartments. Ideal for families with kids. So we included this hotel in our blog about the city of Groningen with kids. As a result of our overnight stay, we write this review about the hotel.

From the highway you can get to the hotel in no time and you can park your car under the hotel. The parking lot is not super large, so it is a bit of a hassle to park, and guests are asked to leave the car key at the front desk, as sometimes they may have to move a car to let another car out. From the parking lot we are right at the reception and we are curious to see where we will end up.
We had booked apartment 47 and the apartment is in a residential house exactly opposite the hotel. When you step out the door of your apartment you are right in front of the door of the hotel. What we like tremendously about the apartment, because it allows us to easily use the facilities of the hotel such as breakfast from the apartment. Whether you walk to breakfast from a hotel room or from this apartment, you are on the road for a short time.
Furthermore, we get all kinds of information from the hotel’s friendly receptionist about the area. So you can walk a particular scavenger hunt through the city, but they have also created a scavenger hunt through the hotel for kids. The hotel is within the downtown canals and you can walk to the Grand Place in less than ten minutes.
The hotel also has a gym, but we did not use that during our city trip to Groningen with the family.
The apartment we booked is fantastic! Enormously spacious with a spacious living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and even a piece of garden where you could possibly sit if the weather is nice. When we arrive at the apartment in the afternoon, Sophie plops down on the couch and doesn’t want to go into town for the rest of the day. She does entertain herself like this with the TV and her crayons.
The apartment itself is very tastefully decorated and also because of the height of the rooms gives a very spacious feeling. Because there is a kitchen in the apartment, there is a possibility to cook for yourself if you would like. Especially if you want to visit Groningen for a longer time, this apartment is a very good option for families, as it really gives you the idea of having a house in the center.
Because the apartment is spacious and there are also, for example, two flat-screen TVs in two different rooms, you also feel a lot less like you are on each other’s lips. For the rest, the apartment has a good WIFI connection which we also always consider very important when booking a room.
Food and drink in hotel
So because you have your own living room and kitchen, it is possible to cook for yourself. We ourselves chose to go get some sushi in town. A few minutes’ walk from the apartment are several sushi establishments, where we could order food. We could eat this food at our own dining table in our apartment.
The hotel itself also has a Grand Café, where you will be served the international breakfast buffet in the morning. This was very extensive and basically everything you would expect from a breakfast in a hotel was there! By the way, it is also possible to play a game with your kids and have a drink in this Grand Café during the day.
We really enjoyed our overnight stay in this apartment. The apartment is right in the center across from the hotel, giving you a homey atmosphere, but with the facilities of a hotel. We had actually never experienced this concept like this ourselves, but we really liked it. If you want more information about the different rooms, apartments and the rest of the hotel, check out the hotel ‘s website.
