Cheap destinations with kids #1 Agra (India)
Always wanted to visit the seven new wonders of the world. Agra is where you can admire one of those seven new wonders of the world: the Taj Mahal. This beautiful marble mausoleum is one of the most famous buildings in the world and will always be a special place for our family (I, Joep proposed to my wife Sanne here). You can stay overnight in Agra with your family starting from 5 euros per night.
Cheap destinations with kids #2 Hoi’an (Vietnam)
Located in the middle of Vietnam, Hoi’an is a tremendously nice place, with very many nice restaurants. You can visit several rice paddies here and lie on the beach. Also, like us here, you can have a suit custom-made and sent to the Netherlands for very little money. You can stay in Hoi’an with your family starting from 6 euros per night.
Cheap destinations with kids #3 Siem Reap (Cambodia)
We are huge fans of the country of Cambodia because of its tremendously friendly people. Siem Reap is one of the most famous places because of the beautiful temples of Angkor Wat. Cheap destinations with kids #4 Medellin (Colombia)
Colombia is increasingly being discovered by travelers and one of the most beautiful places in this country is Medellin. Cheap destinations with kids #5 Sibu (Malaysia)

Visit this city between April and September, as that is when the least rain falls. You can stay with your family in this Malaysian city for as little as 7 euros a night.
Cheap destinations with kids #6 Bukit Lawang (Indonesia)
Bukit Lawang is a small village in the jungle of Indonesia on the island of Sumatra, and facilities here are limited. For example, we had no hot water and you could only shower in the river located near the village. Still, this village is worth seeing because of the Orang Utan that can be admired here in the jungle. With a guide, you can spot monkeys in the wild here through the jungle, which is a very cool experience. You can stay in Bukit Lawang as little as 5 euros per night with your family.
Cheap destinations with kids #7 Kathmandu (Nepal)
Nepal’s capital is the perfect base from which to continue visiting the country. In the center you have beautiful ancient temples at Durbar Square and also the cozy backpacker district of Thamel. From Kathmandu, we also visited the other two royal cities of Patan and Bhaktapur. You can easily enjoy yourself here for a week and you can stay here for as little as 5 euros a night with your family.
Cheap destinations with kids #8 Udawalawe (Sri Lanka)
The town of Udawalawe in Sri Lanka doesn’t amount to much, but that doesn’t matter because most travelers come here for the Udawalawe National Park. This park south of Sri Lanka has a large herd of elephants, crocodiles, monkeys and bison roaming around. You can book a half-day or full-day tour in this park and we ourselves booked a half-day tour with our daughter and saw all the above animals amply. In Udawalawe you can stay with your family for as little as 2 euros a night. If you want to read more about safari options in Sri Lanka click here.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money with your family in South Africa either. In Johannesburg, it can be as little as 9 euros. In this largest city in South Africa, most travelers will land and this destination will be the starting point of a beautiful tour of South Africa. Still, there is plenty to do in Johannesburg. For example, you can take a bike ride through the hip township of Soweto and you can visit the apartheid museum. You can also go on safari from this place in a day trip to spot the Big Five. Pilanesberg National Park is a 2.5-hour drive from Johannesburg.
Cheap destinations with kids #10 Marrakesh (Morocco)
Surely the nicest city in Morocco is Marrakesh. You can visit this city even from the Netherlands in the form of a city break. Surely the most famous square is Djemaa el Fna square in the middle of the city. Here we enjoyed the various acts of snake charmers and acrobats showing their tricks in the square. You really get the thousand-and-one-night feeling in this city. Wander around the city’s colorful medina and try to haggle for the hundreds of souvenirs you’ll find here. In Marrakech, you can stay with your family from as little as 7 euros per night.
